CHANDIGARH,04.07.20-University Institute of Applied Management Sciences, Panjab University organized a Webinar on “Intellectual Property Rights - Some Key Aspects for Enterprises” a significant area under discussion forfuture business managers by Mr. Vikas Asawat, a Registered Patent & Trade Mark Attorney. He is an alumnus of Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law IIT Kharagpur. He has consulted/ facilitated/ filed around 300 Patents, 80 Industrial Design, 450 Trademarks, and 75 Copyrights applications in last 10 Years.

Mr. Asawat gave a detailed presentation with numerous practical
examples of issues related to Trademarks, Copyrights, and Patents etc.
of various corporate brands like Pepsi, Bata, Bisleri, Starbucks and
Sardarbucks, Oxyrich and Oxycool and many more. This session was very
interactive and covered all aspects related to filing of trademarks and
patents also.

Dr Amandeep Singh Marwaha, Training cum Placement Officer, and
coordinator of this webinar introduced the speaker and highlighted the
vast experience Mr. Vikas Asawat who has delivered around 170
specialized lectures and training programme on Intellectual Property
Rights and Cyber Laws in various institutions and industrial
associations including Central Detective Training School, Ministry of
Home Affairs, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Indian Institute
of Technology Indore, Ministry of MSMEs, NIT Jalandhar, NIPER
Hyderabad, Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata and many more
prestigious institutions.

Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi, Director, UIAMS and patron of the webinar in
her welcome address said that today the audience was fortunate to have a
chance to listen to Mr Vikas Asawat through a Webinar organized by
Placement Cell, UIAMS. She further highlighted that the Intellectual
Property Rights is critical to fostering innovation in this globalised
economy with the integration of Liberalisation and Privatization. This
promotes creativity and leads to fair trading thereby helps in economic
and social development.

The question answer session was coordinated by Dr Rachita Sambyal where
the students of UIAMS interacted with many queries like trademark
validity, problems faced while registration of trademark, do companies
need to register their trademark while venturing to another country,
Being a startup is it use full to be get registered in starting or we
can go for cost-cutting in starting? If someone use new trademark then
can we use his old trademark? How many patents can a company have?

Prof Sanjeev Sharma appreciated the session delivered by Mr. Vikas
Asawat and recalled his long association with UIAMS as an expert on
Patents and Trademarks.
