Chandigarh, June 29 - Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Dushyant Chautala said that Keorak village in Kaithal district will be the first village in the State to treat the pond water for irrigation and other purposes and this pond will be a model pond. This process will be followed by Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority by adopting three pond and five pond system to treat the pond water in rural areas in the State.

Giving more information about the same, the Deputy Chief Minister, who is also holding the portfolio of Development and Panchayats Department said that in order to use every drop of water after the implementation of "Mera Pani-Meri Virasat" scheme regarding ground water conservation, Micro-irrigation projects are being encouraged. Besides this the State Government is also working to prepare plans to treat and reuse pond water. He said that about 95 percent pond work has been completed in Keorak village and it would probably be inaugurated by July 15, 2020.

Mr. Dushyant Chautala said that out of the 18 ponds which will be developed as model ponds in the first phase, over area of 35 acres the pond of Keorak village in Kaithal district, pond over area of 3.9 acres in Jakhauda village of Jhajhar district, pond over area of 8.5 acres of Sagga in Karnal district, pond over 27 acre in Padha village in Karnal district, pond over 10.5 acre of Kachhwa in Karnal district, pond over 11 acre of Goundar village in Karnal district, pond over one acre of Teppala village in Ambala, pond over 5.26 acres of Dayalpur village of Kurukshetra district, two ponds over 5.5 acres and 2.5 acres in Kasandi village in Sonipat district, pond over 3 acre area of Balad village in Rohtak district, two pond over 08 and 01 acre in Bahu-Akbarpur village in Rohtak district, pond over 8.5 acres of Nindana Tikri in Rohtak district, pond over 2.05 acres area in Baniyani village in Rohtak district, pond over 22 care of area in Aurangabad village of Palwal and pond over 3.5-acre of area of Rakhigarhi in Hisar district will be constructed.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the main focus would be given on 11 points for the model pond, including the requirement for inlets and outlets in the pond, proper resolution of overflowing of the pond, maintaining a minimum water depth of 8 feet in the pond, It should have flat surface, green belt and water catchment area, DPD wire mesh should be in the pond, there should be natural trees in the green belt of the pond. There should be biodiversity of the pond including aquatic life i.e. fish, turtle, frog, snake, lotus flower cultivation, duck and wild grass and other herbs at the pond. There should be a plan to construct a Gau-Ghat and space for other animals.

Besides, the beautification of the pond, de-silting should be done on time. The banks of the pond should be cleaned regularly and provision of retaining walls should be taken, he added.

He said that presently, there are total of 16,350 ponds in the State, out of which 15,910 ponds are in rural areas and 440 ponds are in urban areas and Pond Atlas has been prepared by mapping GIS of all the ponds. 2606 ponds in rural areas are polluted and overflowing, 7963 are polluted without overflowing, 4413 ponds with clean water. Constructed wetland technology is being used to treat the water of polluted ponds and solar pump system is being installed for the drainage of each pond, he added.

After calling upon Mr. Vij at his residence in Ambala Cantt, Dr. Banwari Lal noted that his health was improving day by day. Home Minister had fractured his leg a few days back.

Cooperation Minister said that the Health Minister, Mr. Anil Vij is continuously monitoring the measures being taken for the prevention of COVID-19 and giving necessary guidelines to the officers concerned.
