CHANDIGARH,14.06.20-Covid 19 has been posing different challenges for the medical community day in and out. There had been a striking shortage of blood for the patients in previous days due to lockdown restrictions and social-distancing measures. However, many organisations simultaneously came forward to strategically overcome this shortage through organised blood donation campaigns. The National Medicos Association (NMO) has been organising the “RAKTA DHARA”, a nationwide blood donation drive to overcome the crises. A blood donation camp under the campaign was organised by NMO-Chandigarh this Sunday on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day at PGIMER with active participation by ARD-PGIMER. Prof. Jagat Ram, Director PGI along with Prof. R.R. Sharma, HOD Dept. of Transfusion Medicine and Prof. Vipin Koushal, Addl. Medical Superintendent inaugurated the camp and conveyed their best wishes to all the donors. Prof. Ajay Savlania, Vascular Surgeon of PGI was the first to donate his blood in the camp. Team NMO-Chandigarh paid gratitude to Dr. Suchet Sachdev of Dept. of Transfusion Medicine for helping in organising the camp at PGI. They informed that 70 corona warrior doctors came forward and donated their blood to give life to others. One unit of blood is known to save three lives. They congratulated team of Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTTO) who were present at the occasion, on also getting the organs pledged from 30 donors under the guidance of Prof. Vipin Koushal.
