CHANDIGARH,08.04.2020-Chandigarh Police has succeeded to nab two persons Monu and Uttam, who are impersonating / presenting themselves as press reporters by using fake ID cards of India New Channel for freely movement during lockdown. Chandigarh police also recovered a vehicle i.e. car PB 11 CH 0535 make TATA Tiago used by them and also recovered contraband 100 grams smack / heroine (50 grms from each) from their possession on naka situated at Zirakpur Barrier, Chd.

On 08.04.2020, SI Gurjivan Singh, along with police officials was on naka duty at Zirakpur Barrier, Chd, where he stopped a vehicle i.e. car PB 11 CH 0535 make TATA Tiago. On asking, the occupants of car disclosed their names as Monu @ Munna S/o Ram Pujan R/o H. No. 1387 Sector – 52 Chandigarh age 19 years and Uttam S/o Bansidhar Dubey R/o H. No. 1065, Sector – 52 Chandigarh age 19 years. During further questioning regarding their movement during lockdown, they produced ID Cards of Indian News Channel and personating them as press reporters. They further disclosed to the police officer that they are coming back from Sec 9 Panchkula, Haryana after dropping his friend, who was very sick. Police officer present on the naka was not satisfied by their replies and when enquired about their antecedents, their ID Cards found to be fake. When, the police searched them, further 100 grams contraband smack was from their possession (50 gram smack from each).

It also revealed that the said persons possessed fake identify cards of India News Channel and using the same to show the police parties for freely movement during lockdown. In this regard, a case FIR No 59 dated 08.04.2020 u/s 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, 188, 270 IPC and 21 NDPS Act has been registered against the above said persons.

It also revealed that the accused Munna S/o Ram Pujan R/o H No 1387, Sec 52, Chd, who was driving the car, has a criminal past, as two cases of dacoity and Excise act had already been registered against him.

MODUS OPERINDI - During interrogation, they stated that they used a car owned by Vikas, who is real brother of the accused Uttam and went to Ambala with reference of one Vikarm, residing at Sector 52, chd and purchased the recovered smack from one person, who met them near Bus Stand Ambala, Haryana and they further used to sell the same in the tri-city accordingly.

The investigation of the case is on initial stage and two days police remand would be obtained from the court for further investigation and nab the source of procurement of recovered substance.
