PU-PGI Comic on Coronavirus Awareness released in multiple languages

chandigarh,30.03.20-A comic titled “Kids Vaayu and Corona: who wins the fight?” by Dr.
Suman Mor, Associate Professor, and Chairperson, Department of
Environment Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Dr. Ravindra
Khaiwal, Additional Professor of Environment Health, Department of
Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh has
been converted into various languages including Hindi ,Punjabi
English, Gujarati, Spanish, and Dutch version. Very soon it will be
available in French and other languages.

The comic helps to resolve queries of children related to Coronavirus
and shares healthy tips to defeat #COVID19” for COVID-19 awareness

Download corona comic for awareness of children, clearing their doubts
and making them Corona Warriors at-

Very soon comics with Chota Bheem and Google will be available to make
children aware and be the hero of prevention by defeating coronavirus
spread in India and abroad.

Former Panjab University Vice Chancellors, Prof K N Pathak has requested the PU authorities for contribution of Rs 5000/- to PM's Relief fund on Covid19.

Also ,there wil be contribution of Rs 5000/- from Smt Puri towards the same.

UBS Conducting Online Teaching

Keeping in mind the situation developed as a result of COVID-19, Dr
Tejinder Pal Singh, Associate Professor,University Busines School,
Panjab University Chandigarh has scheduled PhD-2(Econometric
Methods-PhD 9204) classes online .

Similarly, Dr Neha Gulati , Assistant Professor is also ensuring that
students are engaged academically during the lock down period.

She is conducting online classes, Quiz Test , Descriptive Test through
following options:

1. Google Classroom :
It has been used to send study material including pdf, ppt, web
resources, to answer student queries, to conduct online synchronous
test both Quiz and Descriptive.
Till date 2 Quiz and 1 Descriptive test has been conducted with 100%
student participation.

Test 1 conducted on 17 March,2020
Test 2 conducted on 24 March,2020
Test 3 scheduled on 31 March, 2020

2. Online videos and Study Material:
Study material has been also been shared amongst students through
personal online videos created using OBS TOOL.

3. Assignments submitted Online :
Students have submitted assignments online and these have been
evaluated online using Rubrics in Google Classroom.

4. Students have been encouraged to create their own videos for topics
assigned so that it becomes easy for others to understand the concept.
These are regularly being shared amongst the class.

5. Open Book Test are being conducted to keep them connected academically.

It is ensured that in this period of hardship, UBS students would
make all proud by their achievements.

PU Volunteers for Testing of Covid19 Samples

In these tough and testing times of Corona pandemic, Panjab
University Chandigarh has offered its sevices to Chandigarh
Administration Health Services with testing the Covid-19 samples, if
and whenever the services are required.

The Department of Microbiology and Department of Biotechnology of PU
can do so as they have the requisite expertise for testing the samples
by RT-PCR instrument,the BSL-2 (Biological Safety Level-2) laboratory
with negative pressure (specially required for testing such samples)
and volunteer manpower in the form of trained research scholars.

The administration, in turn has to provide the standard kits and PPE
(Personal Protection Equipment)

BioNEST-PU gets 6 lakhsCSR fund for COVID-19

The BioNEST-Panjab University, one of the North India’s leading
bioincubator housed at the Panjab University, Chandigarh campus, has
received CSR fund of Rs 6Lakhs from Techinvention Lifecare Pvt. Ltd.,
a Mumbai-based private Biotechnology firm for research and development
related to the SARS-CoV2 or the novel corona virus, informed Dr. Rohit
Sharma ,the Project Leader of BioNEST-PU.

He also stated that such Industry-partnerships and collaborations are
helping in order to utilize the bioicubator as a place for dedicated
research to satisfy needs of the hour and provide services in

At this point of time, undertaking R&D of products for the diagnosis
and prophylaxis of the novel Corona Virus is the moral responsibility
of the entire life-science sector, while supporting such projects is
what is needed from corporate firms ,said Dr. Rohit Sharma.

While the whole world is suffering because of the novel Corona virus,
multiple preparative steps are being taken by the Government of India
to provide required support to the healthcare research and innovation
segment. In order to support the efforts of Government of India, the
Ministry of Corporate Affairs has also clarified that the support
provided by corporates for projects and initiatives related to
COVID-19 will be covered under the their Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) as per Section 135 of the Company Act 2013.

On the other hand, the World Health Organization under Global Research
Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness has already launched
several R&D blueprints and has laid down roadmaps for research and
innovation to combat COVID-2019. Under COVID-2019 PHEIC Global
Research and Innovation forum, immediate research actions were
unanimously agreed upon which mainly focus upon the development of
adjuctive as well as supportive therapies and diagnostic measures for
the disease.
