CHANDIGARH,13.02.20-Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organized a Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) sponsored workshop on Pearl Culture. Organized under the aegis of Zoology Department of the college, the workshop drew enthusiastic response as 35 students participated in it. Dr. Abhed Pandey, Department of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana delivered an informative talk on freshwater Pearl Culture. Providing hands-on training to the participants, Dr. Pandey demonstrated the techniques involved in pearl oyster farming including implantation methods, pre-operative conditioning, surgical methods, post-operative care, food and feeding, and pearl harvest. The participants found the workshop immensely beneficial as it sensitized them about a new avenue which can be explored as an entrepreneurial opportunity.

Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded this initiative of the Zoology Department and said that keeping in mind the paramount importance of skills in the present times, MCM organizes such workshops with the aim of enhancing employability skills of the students.
