Chandigarh,13.02.20- Panjab University's community radio station, 91.2 MHz Jyotirgamaya celebrated it's 9th anniversary today which coincides with World Radio Day. The celebrations were held at the Radio station housed in the School of Communication Studies. The faculty and students of the department cut a cake to celebrate the occasion.

The radio station was inaugurated in 2011 by the then information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni. Currently, the radio station broadcasts for 11 hours everyday. The programs range from talking about health, law and music including interviews of eminent personalities.

The radio station has recorded over 500 hours of books for the visually impaired students. It has undertaken various projects from bodies like Department of Science and Telecommunication, Election Commission of India, UNICEF and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Chairperson, School of Communication Studies and Coordinator of PU Radio, Sumedha Singh said, "PU Radio has always worked for the community and will continue to do so and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome anyone who wishes to contribute toward community empowerment".
