Faculty Development Programme on Blockchain Technology Concludes

25 January 2020: Five-day Faculty Development Program on BlockChain Technology, organised by PMLSD Business School in association with Electronic and ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee concluded at GGDSD College today. The FDP was attended by around 40 participants who had come from various regions of northern India. The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the programme and were awarded a Certificate of Participation. Mr Sameer Goel, Development Centre Head, Infosys was the chief guest at the valedictory function.

PMLSD Business School which aims to offer a programme on the lines of IIMs is having an industry-endorsed curriculum. The Programme would offer innovative modules, such as business analytics, blockchain and artificial intelligence to meet the needs of the industry and business”, said Sh Upkar Krishan Sharma, President GGDSD College Society.

Mr Sameer congratulated the management of the college for starting a B School of such calibre in Chandigarh. He said,” The Business school will be of great benefit to students aspiring to make it in the field of management and business”. He also lauded the efforts for hosting such an educative Faculty Development Programme on blockchain technology which is of great relevance in today’s time.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Capt Virender Singh who thanked the chief guest and the management of GGDSD for the support and guidance which made the FDP 2020 a grand success. Principal Dr Balraj Thapar and distinguished members of the GGDSD College Society also graced the occasion with their presence.


January 24, 2020: The Legal Literacy Club of GGDSD College celebrated the Girl Child Day with enthusiasm and fervor today. Mr Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Service Authority, Chandigarh was the key speaker on the occasion. He stressed on the need to increase awareness on the importance of girl education, their health and nutrition.

Award winning Documentary, produced by the department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the College titled, ‘Bachpan Se Pare’ was shown to the students to sensitize them of the various challenges faced by women.

Principal, Dr. Balraj Thapar, urged that it is the social responsibility of each citizen to come forward for the upliftment and protection of women of our country. Dr. Mona Arora, Coordinator, Legal Literacy Club highlighted the importance of girls in society. A pledge was taken by one and all present at the occasion to end discrimination against girls and promote gender equality.
The event culminated with a rally by NSS cadets of the college wherein students raised slogans on women empowerment.


One-day workshop on Exploring Nature & Herbarium Preparation

25.01.2020: Botany department of GGDSD College conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Exploring Nature & Herbarium Preparation’ today. The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Environment & Forests, Chandigarh Administration as a part of awareness activities. About 70 students along with faculty members attended the workshop.

Mr. Gurdev Singh, senior technician, Panjab University, Chandigarh, gave hands-on-training to students on collection of local plants, method of drying, preservation using preservatives and mounting them on herbarium sheets. The preserved plants are later arranged according to their respective families as per the classification system in chronological order and stored in herbarium files or wooden cupboards and maintained for current and future studies. Such plant specimens serve as reference material for identification, nomenclature and systematic classification of plants.

Principal Dr. Balraj Thapar and Dr. Sajeev Soni, Dean Sciences, lauded the efforts of botany department for conducting such informative technical training on plant systematic.
