CHANDIGARH,Sunday,19.01.2020 : The 7th edition of the International SD Model United Nations was concluded with an award ceremony and an extravaganza cultural shows. The three-event was attended by 240 delegates and a large number of students. As many as 173 delegates had engaging discussions and debates on the different issues. Professor Karamjeet Singh, Registrar, Panjab University was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the event. Mr Singh lauded the efforts put in by the SD MUN team and the delegates.

The MUN comprised of four committees having separate agendas. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) witnessed a heated debate by 64 delegates on two agendas: "Observance of environmental norms in the drafting and implementation of agreements on disarmament and arms control" and "Implementation of The Convention on The Prohibition of The Use, Stock Piling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and Their Destruction.”

The second committee, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) saw the participation of 46 delegates regarding the "Deliberation on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances with Emphasis on Ethnic Minorities" and "The Invocation of Rights to Self-Defence in Response to Armed Attacks Conducted by Armed Forces.”

The committee of the All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) had 65 participants, representing different personalities from the Indian Political space debating on "Understanding the Need to Uphold Dissent in Democracy and Review Sedition Law" and “Discussion on the Roadmap to Ensure Safety and Empowerment of Women in India through Social and Legal Reforms with Emphasis on Gender Neutralisation.”

The fourth committee, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) witnessed the strength of 44 delegates and debated on two agendas: "Addressing the Practice of Gender Selective Abortion and Future Consequences of Gender Imbalance in Affected Areas" and "Addressing the Labour Rights of Women with Special Emphasis on Harassment at the Workplace.”
