Mohali, January 14, 2020-NIIFT preserving the tradition once again celebrated and welcomed the first festival of the year – Lohri in its true essence at NIIFT Campus here. Lohri was celebrated by the NIIFT fraternity with great pomp and show.

Avneet Kaur, PCS, Inderjit Singh, Registrar, NIIFT, Dr. Poonam Aggarwal,Principal, faculty and staff members and students were present on the occasion.

At the event Avneet Kaur, PCS, Director, NIIFT said, “Lohri is a fun filled festival observed mainly by the Punjabi community every year in the month of January for a good harvest that carries cultural and traditional significance. The festival of Lohri brings happiness for every class and age group in North India.” She further added that online Prospectus for admissions 2020 at NIIFT, MOHALI will be made available from third week of January and the entrance examination will be held in the month of June,2020.

Inderjit Singh,Registrar,said “We have students from varied cultural backgrounds and it is of utmost importance to keep them connected with our Punjabi Virsa and Lohri is one such festival which is celebrated with great vigour at NIIFT.”

Dr. Poonam,Principal congratulated all the students on Lohri and Makar Sankranti which is a traditional new year in North India.

Lohri is also considered as a festival of farmers. Farmers dedicate their crop to God in the form of bonfires and wish for their health wealth and prosperity. The same environment was palpable at NIIFT. Students tapped their toes on film songs like “… Lo Aa Gai Lohri Ve… they also sang Punjabi boliyaan meant for lohri like ‘sunder mundariye’and many others. Faculty members also enjoyed and participated with full zeal. Everyone enjoyed the traditional dhol beats and danced on the Punjabi music.

The event showcased the traditional bonfire and distribution of Lohri sweets to all students.
