Dietetics Day Celebrated
CHANDIGARH,10.01.20-The Indian Dietetic Association (IDA), Chandigarh Chapter celebrated its “ National Dietetics Day” on the theme “Dietitians : Reaching the Unreached.” The Convenor, IDA, Chandigarh Chapter Dt. Sunita Malhotra, Chief Dietitian and Head, Department of Dietetics said every year National Dietetics Day is celebrated on 10th January on different themes. On this occasion, number of community outreach programs are organized by the IDA. On 10th January Department of Dietetics, PGIMER organized a workshop cum Nutrition Education Program for aanganwadi mothers at Sector - 24, Chandigarh. The women were apprised about Healthy Nutrition and balanced diet. Since prevalence of anemia in India is very high, approximately 40 %, and even higher among Indian women, hence an exhibition on balanced diet, vitamin 'A' and Iron deficiency Anemia was put up in the aanganwadi center. Talks and panel discussion was held to answer their queries. All the mothers present there were given information on Vitamin 'A' and Iron rich diets and how to increase these nutrients in their diet with locally available colored fruits and vegetables, groundnuts and til seeds. More than 50 women attended the program. Handouts on Vitamin 'A' and Iron Rich diets alongwith low cost snacks like nutritious pinni, high in proteins and high in iron and Vitamin 'A' rich Carrot Barfi was distributed to all the participants. Dieticians from Dietetics Department, PGIMER shared their views with all the mothers on importance of micronutrients present in the low cost locally available foods by incorporating these daily in their diets. Information was also provided regarding fortification of foods as the F+ logo displayed on wheat flour, rice, salt, oil and milk packets .

Mrs. Usha Kiran, CDPO, Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration presided over the function and appreciated the Dietetics team and requested to organize such type of programs for other Aanganwadi Centers too.


Training on “ HIV AIDS & ART” for nursing students

A five days’ training course on HIV/AIDS and ART was organized by National Institute of Nursing Education, (NINE) from 6.1.2020 to 10.1.2020 under the guidance of Dr. Karobi Das, Officiating Principal, NINE, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Prof Arvind Rajwanshi, Dean (Academics), PGIMER, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest for the valedictory session on 10-01-2020. Prof. Rajwanshi emphasized on the role of nurses in prevention and management of HIV/AIDS and shared his experiences, with the participants. A total of 127 students of B.Sc. Nursing (4 years) interns & B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic) 2nd year participated in the training course. Important topics related to HIV/ AIDS like Nurses Role in HIV/AIDS, Stigma & Discrimination, Epidemiology and disease progression, Counselling and testing for HIV Prevention of parent to child transmission (PPTCT) Infection control & Post exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), Introduction to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), Paediatric HIV, Symptomatic management of Opportunistic infections, Sexually transmitted infections, Positive living, Palliative care for people living with HIV/AIDS, Complementary therapies in HIV and challenges faced by nurses were included in the course. Each lecture was followed by group work and discussion. Ms Neena Vir Singh and Dr. Kavita, Lecturers, NINE, PGIMER were the coordinators for the training program. Training course concluded with distribution of certificates.
