CHANDIGARH,07.01.20-The PGIMER, Chandigarh observed the Inauguration of New Academic Session function on 7th January 2020. Professor Jai Rup Singh, former VC, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and founder VC, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was the Chief Guest on this occasion.

Prof. Jagat Ram, Director, PGIMER welcomed all students, Faculty and other attendees on this auspicious academic occasion and appealed to start the New Year by rededicating their minds to the welfare of the patients, the Institute and mankind.He urged everyone to strive to maintain PGI’s pre-eminence as a centre of all-round excellence so that this Institute can apply a healing balm to the wounds of ailing and suffering humanity with empathy. He requested all, especially the newcomers, to become a part of this grand success story called PGI and dedicate thyself in furthering its legacy.The foundations of an institution do not merely comprise of bricks, mortar, cement and steel. On the contrary, it embodies an ethos, a work culture, an enabling environment, a quiet satisfaction regarding our collective achievements and a restless dynamism for the future. There are some traits have become virtually synonymous with PGI- discipline, dedication, punctuality, a rigorous academic program and an unparalleled synergy between the applied and basic sciences; he added.

Prof. A Rajwanshi, Dean (Academic) conducted the Pin-Up ceremony of more than 150 students who joined the Institute in July 2019 and January 2020 sessions and induced them with the pledge of academic dedication.

Prof. Jai Rup Singh, in his inaugural lecture aptly entitled “Myths, legends, fiction or genetic errors”, delved into mythical and fictionally aberrant animal, human and chimeric figures and discussed various genetic abnormalities that are known to produce the same in real life. He also stressed into the recent advancements in biotechnology, particularly the CRISPR-CAS technology, enabling gene editing in animals and man and the ethical and biological risks and advantages of the same.

Prof. GD Puri, Dean (Research) welcomed the newly joined students and apprised them about the academic and social challenges ahead and wished them a bright future.
