Chandigarh, December 28:The Cooperation and Jails Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today speaking in connection with a controversial video run on a news channel, said that this is a deliberate attempt to defame him which has been made by a traitor of the Sikh Panth. He also added that some old of his has been doctored with his voice being edited. The minister also said that he is ready to undergo any probe in this regard.

S. Randhawa further elaborated that he himself would complain to the cyber crime cell for carrying out a thorough probe into the incident. He also said that he is a baptized Sikh himself who can't even think of speaking anything against Guru Sahib, leave alone actually committing such a heinous act. The minister further said that although he didn't equate Guru Sahib with anybody but still in case he is found guilty in the probe then he is ready to resign.

Divulging more, S. Randhawa said that he would send a legal notice to the news channel for running the doctored video witha malafide intent without verifying. He also disclosed that the video shown also seems to be old in which the summer clothing can be clearly seen. Apart from this, the person standing with him in the video hasn't met him since the last one and a half years. He further elaborated that had there been even an iota of truth in the video then it would have been viral in no time. The delay in the video getting viraled also points out in the direction of it being doctored.

INITIAL INVESTIGATION REVEALS ACCUSED HAD LURED 11 PERSONS WITH PROMISE OF POLICE JOBS

CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 28:Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to further probe the recruitment racket busted with the arrest of Harinder Singh alias Babbu-12 bore, who had allegedly duped 11 people with the promise of police jobs.

The role of the other accused involved in the racket will be probed further by the SIT, according to a police spokesperson, who disclosed that investigations so far had revealed that Harinder had duped at least 11 persons to the tune of nearly Rs. 70 lakh on the pretext of recruiting them into the police department.

The SIT will work under the supervision of IG Patiala Range, with SSPs of Amritsar Rural, Mohali, Barnala, Sangrur and Patiala, as its Members.

It may be recalled that Harinder Singh was arrested on the complaint of ASI Parminder Singh on December 20 for duping people for recruitment in the Punjab Police department. A FIR no. 157 dated 20/12/2019 u/s 419,420,467,468,471,120B IPC & 66D IT Act, Police Station Tapa, Barnala District, had been registered. The accused had duped the complainant Parminder Singh of Rs. 40 lakhs as per his complaint.

Divulging the modus operandi of the accused, the spokesperson revealed that Harinder Singh belonged to an agricultural family in district Patiala, and used to operate from a flat in Kharar, Mohali and Patiala. He pretended to be a Sub Inspector in Punjab Police, claiming that he was dealing in secret operations and hence did not wear police uniform. The accused would prepare and give fake appointment letters to the innocent victims, in exchange of money.

During the investigation, the police had recovered from Harinder original certificates of the complainants, Rs 3,00,000/- in cash, and the accused’s mobile phone with SIM card used in it.

A Pajero Car no. PB 08 CT 0027 was being used by the accused during the commission of the offence and the same has been seized, along with digital evidence in the form of the computer systems of a Cyber Café located in Sector 35-C, Chandigarh, which was used for printing of fake joining letters and DO letters given to the complainants.

During interrogation, Harinder told the police that he had spent Rs. 40.60 lakh for purchase of the Pajero car, repayment of debt taken for the treatment of his daughter, rent of accommodation in Palm Villa in New Delhi, among other things.

Notably, several FIRs have been registered in various districts of the Punjab against Harinder Singh @ Babbu-12bore. On the complaint of ASI Surinder Singh, who was cheated of Rs. 8 lakhs, FIR # 242 dated 24/12/2019 u/s 420, 34 IPC has been registered in police station Sadar of Sangrur. An FIR # 327 dated 24/12/2019 u/s 420,467,468,471 IPC was registered in police station Lehra of Sangrur on the complaint of Kuldeep Sharma of Lehra, who was cheated of around Rs. 4 lakhs.

Another FIR # 199 dated 24/12/2019 u/s 420,467,468,471 IPC was registered in police station Urban Estate, Patiala, on the complaint of Seema r/o Patiala, who was duped of Rs. 6.8 lakhs.

Similarly, FIR # 150 dated 26/12/19 u/s 419,420,467,468,120B IPC had been registered in police station Mehta in District Amritsar Rural on the complaint of Budhsewak Singh, who was cheated of Rs. 7 lakhs, for recruitment as constable in the Police department.

Tript Bajwa directs Government Universities & Colleges to not schedule any entertainment program during 'Martyrdom Week'

Chandigarh, December 28:The Higher Education and Languages Minister, Punjab, Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has directed all the Government run universities and colleges to not schedule any entertainment program during these days keeping in view the fact that it was during this period that Mata Gujri Ji and 4 Sahibzadas of Dasam Pita Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji attained martyrdom for the sake of religion, fighting against tyranny. The minister further said that the entire Sikh circles are in mourning these days known as the 'Martyrdom Week' and that explains why during the last week of December, celebrations and entertainment programs are not considered appropriate.

In a press communique here today, Mr. Bajwa further added that the elder Sahibzadas of Dasam Pita, Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji attained martyrdom at Chamkaur Sahib fighting against invading mughal hordes and after 2 days, younger Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji made the supreme sacrifice when they were bricked alive at Sirhind. Calling the sacrifice of Sahibzadas as unparalleled in the annals of the world, Mr. Bajwa said that the sentiments of not only the Sikh community but the whole Punjabi community are deeply connected with these sacrifices and that is why the written communications are being sent to the universities and colleges to not hold any entertainment programs in their institutions during the 'Martyrdom Week'.

On the issue of North Zone Inter University Youth Festival being held at Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, the minister divulged that the university officials have apprised him that the dates of the festival are decided by the Union Government one year in advance. But still the university officials have been directed to inform the concerned ministries of the Union Government to not schedule any entertainment program during this period.

Mr. Bajwa also disclosed that the private universities, colleges and other institutions have also been instructed to not hold any entertainment programs during these days.

Vigilance nabs SI, ASI taking bribes in two different cases

Chandigarh, December 28 : State Vigilance Bureau, today nabbed a Sub Inspector (SI) and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) red handed while accepting bribes in two different cases.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said SI Sohan Lal, posted at PS Chabewal, district Hoshiarpur was nabbed red handed on the complaint of Harminder Singh for taking bribe of Rs. 50,000. The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused SI was demanding Rs one lakh to help him in a police case.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused was arrested on the spot taking bribe of Rs. 50,000 of first installment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In another case ASI Darshan Singh posted in STF team in Mansa was nabbed red handed by the vigilance bureau. The spokesperson informed that the accused ASI was arrested on the complaint of Manjit Kaur of village Joga. The complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the ASI Darshan Singh and his accomplice ASI Surinder Singh were demanding Rs 30,000 for not to implicate her in a drug case.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and accused ASI Darshan Singh was arrested on the spot taking bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He further informed that another accused ASI Surinder Singh managed to escape during the trap. He informed that two different cases under various sections of prevention of corruption act have been registered against all the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and Bathinda respectively. Further investigations were under progress.

Manufacture, distribution, storage and sale of Cooking Medium concoctions prepared by admixture of Ghee with matter not exclusively derived from milk fat and Vanaspati containing ghee or any other added substance, prohibited in Punjab-Pannu

Chandigarh, December 28:Issuing a Prohibition Order in the interest of public health ,under section 30(2) (a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and in pursuance of the Regulation 2.1.1 of the Food Safety and Standards ( Prohibition and Sales ) Regulations, 2011, Kahan Singh Pannu, Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Punjab informed that the manufacture, distribution, storage and sale of Cooking Medium concoctions prepared by admixture of ghee and any added matter not exclusively derived from milk fat and vanaspati to which ghee or any other substance has been added, have been prohibited in the State of Punjab. Such admixtures cannot be sold even under proprietary food category.

The orders have been enforced for one year with effect from January 15, 2020, said he.

He informed that the office of Commissioner, Food & Drug Administration, Punjab had cancelled the licenses of firms, in the month of September, 2019, which were manufacturing such admixtures in the State of Punjab against the provisions of Regulations, 2011. However, the sale of such admixtures continued in the State with the products manufactured outside the State.

Thereafter, in mid September, a notice was given for seeking objections, to completely prohibit the manufacture/sale/distribution of these concoctions in the State of Punjab. The objections, if any, were to be filed within a period of 15 days.

A company named M/s Tapan Agro Industries Private Limited, Agra filed the objection to the notice. A personal hearing was given to the representative of M/s Tapan Agro Industries Private Limited and was informed that the admixture formulation of M/s Tapan Agro Industries Private Limited (Preet Lite cooking medium proprietary food and Deep Classic cooking medium proprietary food) are not exempted from Regulation 2.1.1 of the Food Safety & Standards (Prohibition & Restrictions on Sales), Regulations, 2011. It was also cleared that this admixture cannot be sold even under proprietary food category , even after proper labeling declaration for being in contravention with the Regulations, 2011.

Pannu said that it has been observed that a large number of Food Business Operators are selling admixtures of vanaspati and admixtures of ghee in gross violation of the Regulations, 2011, under various names such as Cooking Medium, Lite Ghee, Pooja Ghee, Activo Lite, Preet Lite, Ultra Classic, etc. Such cooking mediums contains large amount of Saturated Fats and Trans Fats which further increase manifold when the product is used for frying purposes. The Trans Fats have been established to have ill effects on human health for causing hypertension and coronary diseases. These products are made with admixtures of vanaspati and admixtures of ghee and are prohibited in the State under the Regulations, 2011, being injurious to public health.
