Chandigarh,11.07.19-Religion teaches us love and service to humanity and there cannot be a better service than saving someone’s life.

This was the key message delivered at the Organ Pledging and Blood Donation camp organized by ROTTO (NORTH) and Blood Bank of PGIMER at Gurudwara Sahib, Sector 44 A, here today. The Camp witnessed an enthusiastic response with 31 donating blood 27.people registering for Organ Donation.

The camp was inaugurated by Ms. Harjinder Kaur, Leader Shiromani Akali Dal & Ex- Mayor Chandigarh. Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Ms Harjinder Kaur not only complimented the organizers from Blood Bank & ROTTO (NORTH), PGIMER. for the initiative but also lauded the participants for their enthusiastic and spirited response to this noble cause of Organ Pledging and Blood Donation. She also had special appreciation for Ms Alka Chaudhary for her social commitment, who took the initiative to organize the Camp on her birthday.

Addressing the gathering at the Gurudwara Sahib to come forward to contribute to this noble cause, Ms Harjinder Kaur said, “Sikh Gurus sacrificed their lives to uphold the values of humanism and universal brotherhood. In the same vein, blood or organ donation is a way of following their teachings in true sense.”

Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Ashok Kumar, Acting Nodal Officer, ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER shared, “Organ donation in India is still at an infancy stage. So we try to tap every possible opportunity to promote the cause. These efforts being put into improving public awareness are indicating positive signs. The way people have started supporting the cause is very magnanimous indeed.”

While deliberating on the subject, Ms. Alka Chaudhary who had organized this Camp to mark her birthday celebrations in a novel way, said, “If we look twenty years back, the rate of blood donation was very low. But with enhanced awareness, blood donation has gained acceptance in the society and people come forward for the cause without much persuasion. Organ donation is also somewhat at the position where the blood donation was twenty years back. So clubbing organ donation awareness alongside blood donation camps helps in promoting the cause among community. “

Mr. Karanjot Thind, Transplant Coordinator from ROTTO (NORTH) PGIMER counseled the participants and addressed their myths and misconceptions pertaining to the cause of Organ Donation prevalent in the society.
