New Delhi, July 06, 2019: Showcasing over hundreds of uncommon as well as commercially popular varieties, the 31st Mango Festival entered the second day today. The ongoing 31stMango Festival organised by Delhi Tourism, saw 30 women participating in the enthralling Mango Eating Competition.

The main highlight of the evening was the Mango Eating Competition for Women, held at the venue in which the participants were given 3 kgs. of mangoes to consume within 3 minutes. It drew large participation from women folks present at the festival and infused the crowd with thrill and excitement.

In the competition Ms. Kavita Chaudhary won the first prize eating 1.205 kg mango pulp. The second prize was won by Ms. Sunita Biswas eating 1.068 kgs of mango pulp. The third prize was won by Ms. Kusum Kamewel eating 0.964 kgs of mango pulp. Cash prizes worth Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 1500/- were won by winners respectively.

About 20 Mango growers from across the country besides Government horticulturists continue exhibiting the best of their farm offerings during the 31st Mango festival. From traditional delicacies like the Husnara or the Kesar to the exotic imports the festival is showcasing myriad varieties of mangoes.

This year amongst other new varieties introduced by Mango Growers is ’Virat’ (Kohli) Mango (weighing approximately 1kg), dedicated to the dynamic Indian Cricket Team Captain. The same made for an intriguing highlight during the exhibition.

There were other attractions during the day like the Magic show, Mango Quiz, and cultural performances. Bands like Sur Theka, Ekagra and Rock n Raaga gathered huge crowds on the second day. Apart from the unique and traditional varieties of mangoes on display, there is sale of fresh mangoes and mango-based products like pickles, chutney, juice, jelly, aam-papad and jam.

Visitors across ages and ethnicities were seen relishing the ‘Sau Hai Daam, Jitne Khao Aam’- an all you can eat Mango booth that charges only Rs.100, the Mango exhibition, engaging performances and games. Mango Competition had the viewers cheering enthusiastically for the participants, making for a one of a kind experience for all.

Daniel Bromly, from United Kingdom, one of the many foreign visitors at the festival stated, “This festival epitomises the colour, creativity and the craze for Mangoes that India possesses! I’m spellbound! The competition and the Mango eating booth have made my trip to Delhi super interesting. I wish this is replicated in other parts of the world as well, especially back home by Delhi Tourism!”

An equally exciting day awaits the Delhites tomorrow with the Mango Eating Competition for Men, magic shows, mango quiz and prize distribution of the winners of various competitive categories. Bands like Sufi Amigos, Anakryvit and All India Permit will be performing on the last day.

The festival organized by Delhi Tourism in association with Govt. of Delhi, was inaugurated yesterday by Sh. Manish Sisodia, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Govt. of Delhi.
