Jalandhar,18.06.19-: Upholding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of spreading the importance of Yoga worldwide, LPU School of Physical Education organized a pre-yoga session at its campus in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The session was held to prepare for the International Yoga Day, which will be celebrated in the university on 21st June. Hundreds of students participated in yoga activities. Among the many effective Yoga Asanas practiced during the session, some were Surya Namaskar, Tadasana,Trikonasana, Bhujangasana, and Vajrasana. While many students were novice to Yoga endeavours, some other participants seemed well-versed and mentored the beginners.

Speaking about yoga, PM Modi had said, “Yoga is a vision for a harmonious future for humanity. People often think that yoga is just a set of exercises. Yoga is a philosophy of discipline and meditation that transforms the spirit and makes the individual a better person in thought, action, knowledge and devotion.” The yoga celebrations were held globally after the United Nations had in December 2014 declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Prior to this, a proposal in this regard was mooted by PM Modi during his first address to the UN General Assembly in September 2014. In this way, India is leading the World on International Yoga Day.

Promoting the International Yoga Day, LPU Additional Director Mr Aman Mittal congratulated all of the participants and urged others to follow valuable and beneficial Indian practices like Yoga. Mr Mittal shared: "I am a strong believer in Yoga and regularly perform different ‘asanas’ to get spiritual and medical benefits out of these. In fact, students are future leaders of the world and they need to be always with the best health and lively appearance. For achieving these traits, Yoga exercises are the useful tools to provide young students cheerfulness and peace from within.”
