Chandigarh,17.06.19-In the wake of the recent events of brutal violence against interns and resident doctors in WB, we the resident of PGIMER, Chandigarh had held a peaceful solidarity movement since Friday (14/06/2019) in support of our brothers. We are thankful to our esteemed faculty for joining hands with us in this rightful cause. This goes in accordance with the ongoing Pan-India movement, wherein all government and private hospitals across the country have gone on an indefinite strike.
In the recent turn of events Ms. Banerjee accepted the demands of our fellow doctors in West Bengal, suggesting a 10-point plan to ensure security at the hospitals. So PGI ARD called off the indefinite protest with immediate effect.
We are proud of our doctors and congratulate each and every member of medical fraternity who unite in large numbers all over India and came together for a brutal attack on one of us. This is not the end, but a beginning of new India where Doctors won’t be the victims of violence. We also want immediate efforts into bringing about more stringent legislation to act as a deterrent against such incidents in future and demand a comprehensive central law in dealing with violence on doctors and healthcare staff.
In the end we are thankful to the public & the media which have wholeheartedly supported us in our movement against violence and hope to have the same support in the future.
Thanks and Regards
Dr. Uttam Thakur
