NEW DELHI,23rd May, 2019: Promoting Delhi as a film-friendly shooting destination, Delhi Tourism is a participant at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, in association with Confederation of Indian Industry. The global platform is one of the biggest opportunities to showcase the city’s immense potential to renowned filmmakers and production houses. Delhi Tourism is showcasing the capital’s numerous offerings as a creative canvas as well as a facilitator.

“These (filmmakers at Cannes) are some of the best storytellers in the world, and Delhi has a multitude of stories worth telling. We are committed to enabling creators craft their narratives staged on the ever-inspiring platform of Delhi,” said Sudhir Sobti, Chief Manager, Public Relations at Delhi Tourism & Transportation Development Corporation Ltd. (DTTDC) from Cannes.

The delegation from Delhi is being led by Sh. Shurbir Singh, MD & CEO, Delhi Tourism, Govt. of Delhi. Aiding the initiation of fruitful ties, Delhi Tourism was also a part of the Indian delegation for the India-Nordic Countries Partnership session at the Nordic Pavilion. The Corporation also bore witness to the agreement signing between Producers Guild of India & European Film Commissioners Network for enhancing relations between the two film production industries.

In the last five years alone over 200 films have been filmed partially or fully in Delhi, out of which the year 2018 saw a good number of films being shot in Connaught Place. On the international front, Chandni Chowk has been in extensive demand due to its cultural authenticity. Delhi witnesses an average of 30 films being shot every year.

The availability of new talent, lower production cost, international connectivity, and more than 200 locations to shoot at, are the key offerings Delhi puts forth to filmmakers and producers at the Cannes Film Festival. Delhi Tourism itself has a few properties which can be used as ideal location for shootings. In terms of logistics, the infrastructure that Delhi proffers includes hotels, transport, communication, film shooting equipment, and film processing ensures a streamlined film shooting process. Austrian & German Filmmakers and members of the Producer's Guild of America were some of the prominent visitors at Delhi's booth.

Over the years Delhi Govt through their continuous efforts have been able to woo the filmmakers. More and more films are being shot in the city featuring some of the major landmarks amidst other local areas. Effectively binding the resources available and the procedures involved in acquiring them, the Delhi government facilitates all the permissions to aid production in Delhi.
