Chandigarh,05.10.13:The 15th Annual Conference of the Skull Base Surgery Society of India was  inaugurated on  5th October, 2013 at the Bhargava Auditorium, PGIMER, Chandigarh by Prof.V.M. Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi.  This meeting is being attended by the experts in the field of Skull Base Surgery from U.S.A., Japan, Sweden, Turkey, Germany, as well as from all parts of India.   The Presidential Oration was delivered by Prof.C.E. Deopujari, President, Skull Base Surgery Society of India.  During the two days of conference, there will be detailed elaborations and discussions on different techniques and technological advances needed to cure these brain tumors involving the critical and vital structures of the brain.  The guest lectures delivered during this conference and the papers presented, will be of benefit to all neurosurgeons and other experts in the field of Skull Base surgery. 

                On the first day of the conference, lectures were delivered discussing the role of minimally invasive surgery for skull base meningiomas and lesions involving cavernous sinus.  Prof.M. NecMettin Pamir, Chairperson of World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, Skull Base Surgery Committee, also delivered a lecture on Sphenoid Wing meningiomas. Prof Basant Misra, President elect of WFNS skull Base Surgery Society and Secretary of World Federation of Neurosurgical societies also delivered a lecture of treatment strategies for craniopharyngiomas. It is hoped that the deliberations of this conference will result in mutual exchange of expertize between national and international experts for the benefit of patients.
