Chandigarh – February 10, 2019: Country’s largest bank State Bank of India today launched its second edition of annual flagship programme ‘SBI Green Marathon’ to promote sustainability. Sh. Sanjay Baniwal (IPS), DGP, Chandigarh and Sh. Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh, CGM, Chandigarh Circle, SBI flagged off the event that witnessed more than 3000 enthusiastic runners in Chandigarh. Air Officer commanding, Air Force Station, Chandigarh Air Commodore S Srinivasan, AVSM, Ms. Nilambari Jagdale (IPS), SSP, Chandigarh, Mr. Shashank Anand (IPS) – SSP -Traffic, Chandigarh and Sh. Debendra Dalai, Director, Department of Environment – Chandigarh, Chief Conservator of Forests and Director Science, Technology and Renewable Energy also graced the event. Ayushi Roy, silver medalist at Asian roller skating championships 2018, and prominent cricket personalities Mr. Pankaj Dharmani, Mr. Vishwas Bhalla, Mr. Prashant Chopra and Mr. Varun Khanna were also present at the event. The Sunday morning in the Chandigarh Club observed participants from across the city running 5, 10, 21 Kms marathon, pledging for a greener future.

Senior officials of the bank also contributed to the “Run for Green” theme and ran the marathon along with other participants. All the runners were given organic t-shirts to promote clean and green city and their bibs consisted of seeds for tree plantation post Marathon. SBI in the next three weeks is also rolling out its green marathon in Ahmedabad, Patna, Kolkata and Jaipur with ten marathon events got concluded in New Delhi Lucknow, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Guwahati, Bhopal, Chennai and Bhubaneswar in the last 4 months.
