Chandigarh, 10th January, 2019: A meeting under the Chairmanship of Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Excise & Taxation Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh was held today with the representatives of Hotels, Bars and Restaurants. The main issue discussed during the meeting was the availability of the Alcometers at the Bars in Hotel and Restaurants for the facilitation of the general public. Among officers present during the meeting were Sh. R.K. Popli, PCS, Additional Excise & Taxation Commissioner, Sh. R.K. Chaudhary, AETC and other senior officials of the department.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-Excise & Taxation Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh has desired that all the Hotels, Bars and Restaurants install Alcometers voluntarily in their premises and put proper signage at some conspicuous place to facilitate the general public for the use of Alcometers. The Hotels & Restaurants Association informed that the Alcometers have already been installed in the Bars of the hotels/restaurants where liquor is served and further assured that if there is any non availability of the alcometer facility in any hotel/restaurant, the same will be complied within a week’s time and proper notice board will be placed at prominent place of the premises.
Besides the issue of alcometer, revenue collections from hotels and restaurants were also a part of the agenda particularly with regard to booking of banquet halls where tax @18% is applicable. The Department also invited suggestion from the hotel and restaurants associations with regard to Excise Policy for the year 2019-20 since hotel industry is a major industry in U.T., Chandigarh. The association gave some useful suggestions for the upcoming Excise Policy which will be considered while framing the Excise Policy for the year 2019-20.
