Chandigarh,06.12.18-On the occasion of National Oral Cancer day 6th December,2018, Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER in collaboration with Indian Dental Association Chandigarh State Branch organized an oral cancer awareness & screening camp at Chandigarh Transport Association, Sector-26, Chandigarh. The program was directed towards transport workers who are usually engaged in tobacco habits predisposing them to risk for cancer. Prof K Gauba, (Head, OHSC, PGIMER) told that the incidence of Oral Cancer is high among transport workers and it acutely affects their quality of life.Transport workers are directly linked to these tobacco habits due to their irregular and long working scheduleProf Ashima Goyal, President IDA, told that there is increasing use of tobacco products among young children which predisposes their families to acute health as well as financial stress. She also briefed about steps to quit tobacco related habits. Dr. Satnam made participants aware of ill effects of tobacco and demonstrated them oral cancer self examination technique. Dr. Arpit Gupta, Asst Prof - PGI stressed about the tobacco habits among school children and also highlighted the familial impact of these habits. He told that self-examination is important and PGI is offering a Tobacco Cessation Counselling service for those willing to get rid of this habit. Oral cancer screening and brief Tobacco Cessation Counselling by Dr. Nishant, Dr. Amit Kumar &Dr. Shweta Sharda was performed. Appropriate referrals were also made for the participants for further treatment in Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh
