UILS Competitions at PU

University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh
successfully hosted its 2nd edition of Surana and Surana& UILS
National Environment Law Moot Court Competition 2018 from 2nd to 4th
November, 2018.

The competition witnessed participation of 24 teams from prestigious
law schools all over India. The event embarked with the draw of lots
on 2nd November, 2018.

On the following day, the preliminary rounds and Quarter finals were
held and a cultural evening was organised where all the participating
teams and students of UILS enjoyed the Dandiya night.

On 4thNovember, 2018 the top four teams competed in the Semi- finals
which was a knock- out round.
The top 2 teams battled in the final round which was adjudicated by
the 3 judge bench comprising of Hon’be Mr. Justice Anil Kshetrapal,
judge Punjab and Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr. Justice (retd.) P.S.
Dhaliwal, Present chairman State Consumer Redressal Forum and
Prof.Sangita Bhalla.

Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University,

The team from Balasaheb Apte College of Law, Mumbai was adjudged as
the Best Team and won a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- while the team from
Sastra University School of Law, Tamil Nadu was adjudged as the 1st
Runners Up winning a cash prize of Rs. 7,500/- Both the teams were
also awarded with the prestigious trophies.

Arjun Kadam from BalasahebApte College of Law was adjudged as the Best
Speaker and awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- and SudhanvaBedekar
from the same college was adjudged as the 2nd Best Speaker.

National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi bagged the
Best Memorial Award and got a cash prize of Rs. 4,000/-

Moot Court Competition is a highly exhaustive simulation of real life
court situation and for the past 2 days UILS witnessed high quality
arguments with extensive research. The Moot Court Society under the
guidance of Dr.Jaimala, faculty coordinator of MCS, UILS and Prof.
Rattan Singh, Director, UILS successfully organised yet another
prestigious national level competition.

(Saturday) will be observed as a working day in the University Campus,
Regional Centres and Constituent Colleges of the Panjab University.

Panjab University To Play Nodal Role As Technology Enabling Centre in
The Region.
The Panjab University has been selected by the Department of Science &
Technology (DST) New Delhi, as one of the Nodal centres in the region
for establishing the Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) at Panjab
University, Chandigarh. This may lead to an allocation of Rs 5 crore
to PU for developing a self sustainable TEC, through the next 5 years.

For this selection, Panjab University competed with some of the best
universities of India. A Three member team constituted by the
Vice-chancellor Prof Raj Kumar defended the proposal in front of a
high powered committee at Institute of chemical Technology Mumbai on
25th September 2018. In coming months the PU TEC team will undergo an
orientation to take up this highly challenging project in the area of
taking knowledge to marketplace.

The objective of TEC will be to create an ecosystem for technology
conversion at the University and provide a platform to network
researchers with other institutes, national laboratories and industry.
The focus of the Centre will be on providing an enabling eco system,
process and support for taking the lab level early leads to the
development of marketable products.

Some of the key activities covered under this centre will include
Mining of Technologies being developed at various Labs in University,
Assessment of technical gaps faced by MSMEs, Evaluating maturity of
the identified Technologies (products & processes) for further
development; carrying out Market Studies for their Market Potential of
prototypes and leads; recommend Pilot stage development &
co-development of the Technologies with established
Institutions/Industries to make those Market ready.

The TEC at Panjab University will serve the Industry by preparing
technology status and demand report, assist Start-ups in raising funds
and forging partnerships etc.. Periodic Workshops/Seminars will be
organized in Collaboration with Industries. An interactive portal
supported with databases will be developed to evolve an on line
process of partnership and technology search. TEC will bring out
Newsletter & Bulletin on Quarterly basis.

The award of TEC is seen as a natural progress of PU from the earlier
awards of DIC, CPR, Bio incubator and CIIPP at PU. CIIPP, along with
the CPR at Panjab University has already been striving to promote
industry academia partnerships at PU. Recently, an Institutional
Innovation Council has also been constituted at PU for fostering
collaborations between the faculty and industries in the region. The
award of TEC to PU is an important recognition that the university
holds in promoting innovations for social good.

Session on Interpersonal Skills and Communication
Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh conducts
Workshop at NCC, ATC Camp Centre for Social Work, Panjab University
conducted a workshop cum interactive session at the ongoing Annual
Training Camp (02 Nov to 11 Nov 2018 ) here at the Jawahar Navodaya
Vidhalaya, Sector-25, Chandigarh today. Dr Gaurav Gaur Faculty Social
Work conducted the session on Interpersonal Skills and Communication.

Dr. Monica Munjial Singh Chairperson, Social Work and NCC Girls
In-charge, PU collaborated with Col V K Sheoren and Maj Rajita
Diwakaran In-charge 1 Chd Girls Battalion to undertake this activity.

Nearly 300 NCC Girl Cadets of the Colleges and Panjab University
Chandigarh were present.

Book Distribution Event
Department of Hindi, Panjab University, Chandigarh today organized a
book distribution event as it celebrated Diwali in a unique way by
spreading the light of knowledge. Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson,
Dept. of Hindi, informed that , "We were donated a rich collection of
books by former Chairperson and Late Prof. Yash Gulati. We have kept
the reference books for the Department Library and distributed about
150 of them to the students and research scholars." The books were put
on a display before distribution. Prof. Satyapal Sehgal, Prof.
Baijnath Prasad and Dr. Ashok Kumar attended the event.
