Chandigarh, April 20 – Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr O.P. Dhankar today said that Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar and Maharana Pratap Horticulture University, Karnal will jointly work with Wageningen University, Netherlands with an aim to develop protected horticulture and crop residue and other biomass management in the state. Wageningen University is considered as world-class University in agriculture sector.
          Mr Dhankar, leading a high level delegation, today visited Wageningen University, Netherlands and held a meeting with University Administration.
          Mr Dhankar said that Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University will collaborate with Wageningen University on a project in the field of crop residue and other biomass management. A sum of Rs 30 crore would be incurred on this project. Similarly, Maharana Pratap Horticulture University and Wageningen University will jointly work for the promotion of protected horticulture in the state. An amount of Rs 5 crore will be incurred on this project, which will be funded by the World Bank.
          Haryana has come forward for making international collaboration with foreign Universities so as to protect and promote agriculture, horticulture as well as to ensure management of crop residue in the state. About 11,000 students from Netherlands and also from other countries study at Wageningen University.
          Netherlands has started "Food Valley" organization, which is based on the concept of eco-system. The purpose of the organization is to promote use of healthy food and beverages and to curtail the practice of usage of futile eatables and beverages. All major food business companies are members of this organization.
          MLAs Mr Bakshish Singh Virk and Mr Balwant Singh Sadhura, Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Dr Abhilaksh Likhi, Principal Secretary Irrigation, Mr Anurag Rastogi, Chief Administrator, Mr Mandeep Singh Brar and officers of Netherlands and Indian Embassy to Netherlands were also present on this occasion.
