Chandigarh,26.06.17 :The cadets of NCC units under NCC Group Chandigarh took out a rally against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on June 26th, 2017 to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The cadets took out an anti-drug awareness rally for creating awareness about substance abuse and its negative influence on health, society, culture as well as economy. The cadets walked through the different areas covering about 5 Kms of the city beautiful with banners and placards giving the message of stopping drug abuse.

Addiction to drugs is not an irreversible indulgence. Addiction can be controlled and overcome through concentrated therapy. The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking this year is meant to give this message "Listen First - Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe." It is an initiative to increase support for prevention of drug use that is based on science and is thus an effective investment in the well-being of children and youth, their families and their communities said SgtPoonam Chand of No. 1 Chandigarh Air Sqn NCC.

The local residents applauded the initiatives being taken by NCC Group HQ Chandigarh to address the growing concern on drug abuse. Youngsters are more readily lured into the world of substance abuse. “Availability of drugs, accessibility to information for procuring them and affordability in the modern times have made it easier for the young generation to indulge in addictive substances.”

This makes it necessary for more and more young people to spread awareness about drug abuse and ways in which it can be prevented says JeeveshSaini, an Air Wing NCC Cadet.
