Chandigarh,21.06.17-An eight member Ethopian Delegation of distinguished personalities from industry and academics led by Hon’ble Teshome Lemma, State Minister, Ministry of Education, Ethiopia today visited CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh. The visit is part of twinning Agreement of CSIR with MIDI with financial outlay of 7 million dollars. The aim of this multilateral program is to enhance the competitiveness of the metals and engineering industries through a transformation of Metals Industry Development Institute (MIDI) of Ethiopia into a globally competitive centre of excellence in the field of metals and metals manufacturing with the help of training and know-how imparted by scientists of CSIR.

The delegation visited various facilities of CSIR-CSIO which were of relevance to the Ethiopian industries and were extremely impressed with the expertise, capabilities and facilities of CSIR-CSIO and showed their eagerness in utilization of these for the twinning activities. The scientists of CSIO interacted with the Ethiopian delegation through a series of presentations and demonstrations and provided the spectrum of core capabilities of CSIR-CSIO as well as its state of art facilities.

In this program CSIO will impart modular training on Statistical Tool Usage, Precision Bench Work, Conventional Machining (Milling, turning, surface and cylindrical grinding, tool and cutter grinding), Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) including EDM wire cutting, Jig Boring and Jig Grinding, Maintenance Management, Electronics Workshop Techniques including SMT, Electrical and Electronics measurement, distributed control system and process control, automation & controls.

Besides this CSIO will assist in facilities creation in the areas of Process Control, automation and intermediations for Advanced Electronics Facilities Center Laboratory and provide guidance for higher degree courses to be conducted in Ethopia like Master’s Program on Mechatronics.

It is worth mentioning that CSIO has been imparting similar training to technicians and engineers of developing countries through Indian Technical and Economic Programme / Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme (ITEC/SCAAP) through Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India.
