CM Orders completion of flood protection work and cleansing of waterways by June 30

Asserts that the state government fully geared up preventing any loss due to floods

Says people won’t be allowed to face any sort of difficulty

Chandigarh, May 29:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann On Monday directed the officer to complete works pertaining to cleaning of drains and flood protection works at vulnerable sites across the state well before June 30.

Chairing a meeting of State Flood Control Board to review the ongoing flood protection works in the state, the Chief Minister said that the total length of drains in the state was 8136.76 kilometres and that of the Dhussi bandh was 1365 kilometres. He said that in year 2022 Rs 34.85 crore was spent on 232 works of drain cleaning and Rs 48.32 crore on 100 flood protection works. Bhagwant Mann said that this year Rs 39.90 crore has been spent so far on Flood Protection Works and Rs 39.43 crore on cleaning of drains.

The Chief Minister said that the work is going on in all the districts of the state adding that work of the cleaning of waterways beneath bridges and removing silt lumps from waterways, besides strengthening weak points prone to frequent flooding due to rains has already been started. Bhagwant Mann said that he will regularly oversee the flood protection works being undertaken in close coordination with the DCs across the state. Showing concern over the colossal loss of human lives, livestock, property and standing crops due to floods, he directed the department to take all possible steps to ensure that there was no recurrence of floods as witnessed in recent past.

The Chief Minister said that for it construction of check dams, planting of trees especially that of Bamboos and others must be encouraged. He said that it is heartening to learn that 485 sites for construction of check dames have been identified 151 such check Dams have already been constructed. Bhagwant Mann said that identification of more sites for construction of dams is also going on adding that bamboo plantation has also been covered on 66.73 kilometres .

The Chief Minister also said that in order to prevent the floods in south western Punjab the state government has taken several initiatives like rectifying the alignment of some drains, laying down of pipes to connect the low lying areas with canals and remodelling of bridges. He asked the officers to make sure that the work is done at the highest quality by ensuring optimum utilisation of the government funds. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is committed to save the people from the scourge of floods for which no stone will be left unturned.

Chandigarh, May 29: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday announced to introduce comprehensive reforms at the Tehsil level of facilitating the people in getting their routine administrative works done in a smooth and hassle free manner.

The Chief Minister, while chairing a high level meeting of the Punjab Land Record society, emphasised on introducing these reforms to facilitate the people. He said that all the records pertaining to land must be put online so that people are benefitted from it and they can get the land record on a single click. Bhagwant Mann also said that the land record must available in simple Punjabi language so that people do not face any sort of inconvenience in reading it.

The Chief Minister asked the officers to ensure that all the records in the state are fully digitised. He said that Record Rooms both at State as well as District and Sub Division levels should be maintained with the highest quality. Bhagwant Mann also said that in order to bring transparency and efficiency in the working of Revenue department, the Registration works and office jobs will be made faceless.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the Computerization projects of Department of Revenue in the state and batted for its early completion. He said that the Civil works and furniture for construction and renovation of District Administrative Compiexes, Tehsil Complexes, Sub Tehsils Complexes, Modernization of Sub Registrar Offices, Patwar workstations and Fard Kendras must also be ensured in a time bound manner. Bhagwant Mann also underlined the need for Operation and Maintenance of Fard Kendras for citizen services related to Department.

MARTYRS ARE THE PRECIOUS CAPITAL OF THE NATION: DR NIJJAR

INAUGURATION OF THE SHAHEED MADAN LAL DHINGRA MONUMENT, SPANNING 4000 SQUARE YARDS, WITH AN EXPENDITURE OF 2 CRORE 44 LAKH

Chandigarh/Amritsar, May 29:Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is dedicated to realizing the aspirations of the martyrs. In line with this commitment, portraits of Shaheed-e-Ajam S. Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar have been installed in all government offices, serving as a reminder of their sacrifice. By acknowledging and emulating their accomplishments, Punjab can blossom into a vibrant state.

These sentiments were expressed by Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Local Government Minister of Punjab, during the inauguration of the Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Memorial, occupying 4000 square yards at Golbagh. Dr Nijjar also performed the ceremony of removing the curtain from the statue of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra at the same location. He mentioned that a total expenditure of 2 Crore 44 Lakh has been incurred on the construction of this monument, which also includes the construction of a spacious hall and park.

Dr. Nijjar emphasized the significant contributions made by the people of Amritsar in the struggle for freedom. He highlighted the pivotal role played by patriots from the Amritsar district in various movements, including those who sacrificed their lives at Jallianwala Bagh. He expressed gratitude to the countless patriots who sacrificed for the cause of freedom, enabling us to enjoy the blessings of liberty, and stressed the importance of preserving this hard-earned freedom.

In a press interaction, Dr. Nijjar stressed that it is our duty to acquaint our children with the lives of these martyrs, enabling them to comprehend the immense hardships endured for the sake of freedom. He lauded Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra, who relinquished a life of comfort at a young age to make a significant contribution to the struggle for freedom.

On this occasion, the Shaheed Madan Lal Samiti honored Dr. Nijjar and other distinguished guests by presenting a memorial plaque.

Addressing the gathering, former minister Mrs. Lakshmi Kanta Chawla proclaimed that martyrs are the pride of the nation, and their lives will forever serve as a wellspring of inspiration. She expressed great satisfaction at the due respect paid to this martyr. Mrs. Chawla noted that Shaheed Udham Singh, who was also executed in the same prison where martyr Madan Lal Dhingra was hanged in England, should have his statue installed alongside the monument. This would ensure that future generations are acquainted with their sacrifices.

During the event, Mr. Ashok Talwar, Chairman of the Urban Improvement Trust, called upon teachers to enlighten school children about the lives of the martyrs. He assured that the government is always committed to fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs. The proceedings commenced with the lighting of candles and patriotic songs performed by school children.

Chandigarh, 29th May-Mr. Chetan Singh Jauramajra, Minister of Horticulture and Information and Public Relations, Punjab, conducted a surprise check at the Head Office of the Director of Horticulture, Punjab, at 7:30 am. During the surprise check, six officers/employees were found absent. The Cabinet Minister asked the officials/employees to be punctual in the office.

Hailing the decision of the Bhagwant Mann government to change office timings as a novel initiative, Jauramajra said our visionary Chief Minister's aim was to make public offices in the state more efficient. The general public will be able to access the required government services during the early hours of the day. After obtaining the desired services, people can focus on their other familial responsibilities. This way, they will not have to wait until 5 PM. However, government servants also need to buckle up and change their habits. Every government employee should be present in the office at the designated time of 7:30 in the morning. He exhorted the employees to become catalysts of change in fulfilling the dream of Bhagwant Mann in the making of Rangla Punjab. The public should not face any inconvenience in obtaining services at government offices. He also warned of strict disciplinary action if any employee is found to be late in the future.

The Horticulture Minister also reviewed various schemes running in the department. Jauramajra instructed the Director of Horticulture that the departmental schemes should be promoted and extended to the farmers as much as possible so that the farmers can benefit from them.

PUNJAB GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES RS 13 CRORE AS UNTIED FUNDS OF DISTRICT PLANNING COMMITTEES: CHEEMA

Chandigarh, May 29:Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday informed the Chairpersons of the district planning committees (DPCs) that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government has allocated a budget of Rs 13 Crore as Untied Funds of District Planning committees under district specific schemes for the Financial year 2023-24 whereas in FY 2021-22 this budget allocation was Rs. 6 Crore only. He said this budget would be revised as and if required.

Chairing the functioning review meeting of Chairpersons of District Planning Committees here at Punjab Bhawan, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema exhorted the Chairpersons to work proactively for ensuring the rapid development of their districts. He asked the Chairpersons of DPCs to thoroughly study of the various schemes being run by the government so that they can draft development plans accordingly ensuring judicious utilization of the public money.

Encouraging the Chairpersons to further improve coordination with the Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and MLAs, Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema said that DPCs can contribute significantly in better utilization of their discretionary funds and the funds of their respective departments. He asked them to draft the development proposals for their districts and send these proposals to the planning department through their Deputy Commissioners so that a strategy can be formulated accordingly. He directed Joint Secretary Planning Mr. Rakesh Kumar to provide all possible assistance to the Chairpersons for the better functioning of the District Planning Committees.

Meanwhile, the Chairpersons of DPCs also shared some of the issues being faced by them. The Finance Minister assured that all their issues would be examined and addressed soon. He said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government is on the mission of making Rangla Punjab and DPCs should perform their best for realization of this dream.

CABINET MINISTER ANMOL GAGAN MAAN REVIEWS THE DEVELOPMENT WORKS OF VARIOUS VILLAGES

In pursuit of this goal, Minister Anmol Gagan Maan conducted personal visits to ongoing development projects in several villages of the Kharar constituency, evaluating the progress made.

Giving more information in this regard, Tourism and Culture Affairs, Labour, Hospitality and Investment Promotion Minister Anmol Gagan Maan explained that in consideration of the development of the Kharar constituency, she visited the villages of Khijrabad and Barsalpur on the day before and reviewed the ongoing development projects.

The Minister further informed that she interacted with the local residents of the villages and the officials responsible for the implementation of the development projects. She emphasized that instructions have been given to the concerned officials to expedite the development projects in the villages. The minister also stated that sufficient funds are available to complete the development projects in the constituency. Sarpanchs, Panchs and other prominent persons of the villages were present on this occasion.

Chandigarh, 29 May:Today, Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development, and Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, while listening to the problems of MNREGA workers in Mandi Lakhewali under the Malout assembly constituency, said that the government will give utmost attention to the problems of MNREGA workers.

Addressing the MNREGA workers, she mentioned that their demands, including an increase in the working days and daily wages, will be communicated to the Central Government.

Cabinet Minister, during her visit to the assembly constituency, stated that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, prioritizes resolving people's issues to ensure they benefit from government schemes.

She encouraged MNREGA workers to bring any problems they face to her attention, assuring them that she would pay special attention to their concerns.
