CHANDIGARH,6th October, 2022-Wildlife week is observed during the first week of October all over the country, with the objective of raising awareness among masses for conservation of Wildlife and its habitat. The Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh is organizing various programmes during the week to sensitize and generate awareness among the masses for the Protection and Conservation of Wildlife, Nature and Natural resources.

In this series, a “Management Plan of Chandigarh Butterfly Park” was launched by the department which was released by Sh.Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, HS-cum-Secretary Forests, UT Chandigarh in the presence of Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Sh.Arulrajan P.,IFS, DCF(BG&NR) and Dr.Abdul Qayum, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests(HQ/WL), UT Chandigarh and staff of Forest Deptt, UT Chandigarh.

In his address, Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav appreciated various initiatives by the Forest Deptt. He stressed that the Butterfly Park is having a total No. of 128 species and for scientific management of Butterfly Park, this Managemet Plan was much needed.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Wild Life Warden, UT Chandigarh stated that this Management Plan is a very crucial scientific document for better and effective management of the Park. The Management Plan for the Butterfly Park Chandigarh will play an important role in improving the conservation practices for butterflies as well as aid in creating awareness among the general public for the cause. He further said that Butterflies are important part of ecosystem, they have high intrinsic, aesthetic, scientific, economic, educational and ecological values. They are also known as indicator species for healthy environment.
