NEW DELHI:20.09.22-The Delhi Government under the leadership of the CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal is working on a mission mode to make Delhi roads world-class, beautiful and safer. The Public Works Department (PWD) is doing this work of beautification of various roads across Delhi. In this direction, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia conducted an on-site inspection of a road stretch from Rajghat to Shantivan, which is being beautified by PWD as a part of the pilot streetscaping project. During his inspection, Shri Manish Sisodia also interacted with the visitors in the area to know their experiences. Sharing their experiences, people said that seeing this stretch of road lit up in the light, it is impossible to believe that such wonderful roads are being built in Delhi. Until now such roads were seen only in foreign countries or in movies.


Speaking about the project to develop Delhi roads as per European standards, Shri Manish Sisodia said, “CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s vision of providing world-class walking experience to people of Delhi is turning into reality. Now Delhi roads have started looking beautiful and the response of Delhi residents to this development is overwhelming. Our aim is to make all the roads under the Delhi government pedestrian friendly and provide a pleasant commuting experience to residents of Delhi.”

The Deputy Chief Minister added that the road stretch between Shantivan to Rajghat is part of the pilot streetscaping project of the Delhi government, under which 16 roads across Delhi are being beautified. Delhi government is working on decongesting, redesigning, and beautifying several roads across the national capital. Redesigning roads will eliminate bottlenecks and improve the aesthetics of the road stretch that will include facilities like open-air sitting areas, barrier-free walking areas, ornamental plantations, cycling tracks etc. Beautification of roads in Delhi as per global standards will give a new identity to the national capital.

These roads are being beautified by PWD according to their needs in the pilot phase and after completion of the pilot phase, another 540 km of road under the jurisdiction of PWD will also be beautified on the same lines.

During the visit, the officials told the Shri Manish Sisodia that the aforementioned road stretch is 1 kilometer long and the beautification work is almost completed in most of its part and the remaining work is also being completed at a fast pace. Officials said footpaths have been made for people to walk on the stretch. Small saplings have been planted along the stretch to keep the entire stretch green and the existing trees have been protected. Adequate space has been provided for pedestrians and road users to sit and rest. There is also a provision for wheelchairs and ramps for disabled people. Officials said that on 500 meters of this road stretch, beautification work will be done on either side of the road and on the central verge.

Shri Manish Sisodia also interacted with people travelling on this stretch and learned about their experiences. People were very happy with the road stretch and said that seeing such a beautiful road, it is impossible to believe that the roads of Delhi have started looking so spectacular. They said that till now they had seen such roads in foreign countries or in movies. Now that such wonderful roads are being built in Delhi, we can come here in the morning and evening for a walk with the family.

He directed the officials that the remaining work of the stretch should be completed soon, besides the greenery here and the cleanliness and maintenance of the entire stretch should be taken care of.

*What is the streetscaping project of the Delhi Government?*

Streetscaping of city roads is an ambitious project of the Kejriwal government, under which PWD is working on 16 roads in the pilot phase, to make them beautiful and safe as per European standards. After completion of the project on these roads, streetscaping of a 540km stretch will be taken up by the PWD. After the redesigning of these roads, greenery around them will increase, which will help in reducing the dust pollution in the area. Green belts will be developed on the vacant land along the road so that the roads can get a beautiful look. This will provide a pleasant commuting and walking experience to residents of Delhi.

NEW DELHI-20.09.22-Delhi Government will make seeking pensions easier for the elderly and differently-abled. Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam chaired a high-level meeting to ease out pension process. He instructed officers to expedite and ensure timeliness in pension disbursal. He said, "Delhi Government to soon issue pension cards for the elderly and differently-abled. We are preparing the blueprint for the same."


During the meeting, the Social Welfare Minister reveiwed various facilities including pensions which are given been given to the elderly. The new system with ease out the process of disbursement of pension to the elderly and differently-abled. He was briefed about the status of pension given to the elderly and differently-abled by the officials and he directed them to disburse the pension in a timely manner. During the meeting, he also took account of facilities provided in the old-age homes. He said, "Old-age homes are ensuring that the elderly are healthy, they are being given nutritious food and they live in the homes in happy spirit so that they do not feel that they are staying far from their families.

It is noteworthy that the Delhi Government provides monthly pension to 4.52 lakh elderly. Every elderly is given Rs 2,500. The government also provide the same amount of pension to 1.14 lakh differently-abled people.

Social Welfare Minister Shri Rajendra Pal Gautam said, "The elderly and differently-abled people eagerly wait for the pension provided by the Government every month. It is our duty to ensure that they are given pension in a timely manner so that they can buy the daily necessities conveniently. We will soon issue pension cards to disburse pensions to the elderly and differently-abled people. Elderly play pivotal role in our lives. However, there are some elderly who are homeless. Shri Arvind Kejriwal consider all such elderly like his parents and like a son, he is providing them with world-class facilities at Old-age homes.
