Vice Chancellor Statement

  1. I take this opportunity of welcoming Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji, who has assumed the august office of the Hon’ble Vice President of India & Chancellor of our historic University on August 11, 2022. We salute the prodigious talent of Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar ji and look forward to be blessed from from his illustrious knowledge and a very rich experience for the global march of Panjab University. The 5-year tenure of the august office of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, who happens to be the Chancellor of our University has ended on August 10, 2022 and the great contribution of Sh. M.V. Naidu ji, the former Vice President of India & former Chancellor is placed on record and is highly appreciated. We wish him an excellent health in the coming days.
  2. This is the first meeting of the Syndicate, elections of which were recently held in July, 2022. I look forward to the distinct guidance of the newly elected Syndicate members for the smooth conduct of the day to day affairs of the University to see it touch a new peak in becoming a global player.
  3. To mark the 75th year of India’s independence, Har Ghar Tiranga is a compaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to bring the Tiranga home and to hoist it to mark the 75th year of India’s independence. It is symbolic of an embodiment of our commitment to nation-building and to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of people. Heartiest congratulations to all on this occasion.
  4. Many alumni of our University have brought laurels for the country in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at Birmingham. As adequate details are not available in regard to every such alumnus who has done our University proud, yet I would request that any such available information may be shared so that we are in a position to honour such sportspersons. As per available information till date, some existing and former students of S.D. College, Chandigarh (Jasmine in Boxing, Sagar Ahlawat in Boxing), SGGS College, Chandigarh (Neetu Ghangas, Boxing), Tulika Mann from our University (Judo), Taniya Bhatia, Harleen Deol (Cricket) have been a scintillating performance and have won medals. The Panjab University congratulates and salutes all of them.

Panjab University Syndicate Meeting

Panjab University held its first Syndicate meeting after the elections today at 3.30 pm at Syndicate Room and deliberated on all agenda items.

The meeting started with thanking the former Vice President of India Sh. M. Venkaiah Naidu being the Chancellor of Panjab University for his valuable contribution and also welcomed the new Chancellor and Vice President of India Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji.

The Syndicate allowed to conduct the Bye Election for one seat of Senate, from the Constituency of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of affiliated Arts Colleges.

The Syndicate also allowed the recommendations to allow the BDS students for one year internship course in Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital who has passed their BDS course from other Dental Colleges.

The Syndicate also unanimously allowed to adopt the UGC Regulations, 2022 (Academic collaboration between Indian and Foreign Higher Educational Institutions) to offer Twinning, Joint Degree and Dual Degree Programmes.

The Syndicate unanimously approved the offer from alumni Arun and Arvind Varma (Batch-1960), Dr Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University for the donation of Rs. 3.5 crore to PU.

The Syndicate also approved the recommendations of the Building Committee regarding installation of Public Bicycle sharing docks in the PU Campus as proposed by the Architect, PU, Chandigarh.

Besides these issues, discussions were also held on all other agenda items and most of them were resolved unanimously in the meeting.
