*2 foot over bridges will be constructed on both sides of Rohtak road near Peeragarhi Chowk to facilitate smooth and safe pedestrian movements

NEW DELHI: 10TH AUGUST 2022-The Kejriwal Government will develop an integrated transit corridor and enhance street network connectivity at Peeragarhi junction to decongest the roads and provide a smooth traffic movement at the spot. In view of the same, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia, who holds the PWD portfolio, visited Peeragarhi on Wednesday for onsite inspection and reviewed the upcoming project. The project to decongest Peeragarhi junction will be carried out in a phased manner and will include construction of road over bridge, foot over bridge and underpassess in the area.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “The Kejriwal Government is committed to provide hassle free commuting experience to all the commuters in Delhi. In view of the same, now the project to decongest Peeragarhi junction has been taken up from Jwala Heri Market (Chaudhary Balbir Singh) Red Light to Jwalapuri Red Light, NH-10 (Rohtak Road), by the government.”

He said that this junction is a major connecting point between Delhi, Haryana and other states and load on the road has increased over the years. This project will help lakhs of commuters get rid of traffic woes at Peeragarhi junction during peak hours.

It is to be noted that, NH-10 is a connecting highway for ISBT, Kashmere Gate, Bahadurgarh and Rohtak Road, due to which there is a heavy traffic movement and congestion throughout the stretch. The stretch also witnesses high commercial traffic movement due to industrial areas and over capacity of existing junctions, impacting surrounding residential zones.

Peeragarhi junction will be decongested through improvement of Peeragarhi Chowk Junction, ROB widening along Ring Road going towards Mangolpuri, construction of flyover at Laxmi Narayan Mandir Road, underpass U-turns for the right turning traffic at Chaudhary Balbir Singh Marg and improvement of pedestrian access along with proposed foot over bridges.

*Peeragarhi Chowk Junction improvement*

-> Construction of 1-lane left turn lane for smooth movement of traffic from Nangloi to Mangolpuri

-> Construction of 2-lane Slip Road from Mangolpuri to Punjabi Bagh for South-Left turn

-> Construction of 2-lane slip road for westbound left turn from Punjabi Bagh to Vikas Puri

*ROB widening along Ring Road going towards Mangolpuri*

At present, the ROB going towards Mangolpuri creates traffic problems as it is narrow. Therefore this 500 meter stretch will be widened by increasing 3 lanes on either side. This will smoothen the flow of traffic along the stretch.

*Construction of flyover at Laxmi Narayan Mandir Road*

A 600 meter long, 3 lane flyover will be constructed on both sides of the metro line on Laxmi Narayan Mandir Road near Udyog Nagar Metro Station. The total width of new carriageways will be 20 meters. With this flyover, the traffic load from the existing road will be reduced and the traffic will be smooth

*Underpass U-turn for the right turning traffic at Chaudhary Balbir Singh Marg*

To make the road signal free, a 6.6 meter wide 2-lane underpass U-turn will be constructed at Chaudhary Balbir Singh Marg. Having a signal free road stretch will decongest the roads and provide a smooth commuting experience to people of Delhi.

*Improved Pedestrian Access along Proposed New Metro Station*

Construction of two Foot Over Bridges (FOB) for smooth and safe pedestrian movements is proposed under this project to decongest Peeragarhi junction.

Discussing the further steps to speed up the project, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the PWD officials to complete the project in stipulated time and ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the commuters during the construction works. The project is scheduled to be completed in the next one and half years.
