Action against gambling/satta

Chandigarh Police arrested Jai Kumar R/o # 5796, Maloya Colony,Chandigarh (age-32 yrs) while he was playing satta in Chandni Chowk, Maloya UT Chandigarh on 09.08.2022. Total cash Rs. 6220/- was recovered from his possession. In this regard, a case FIR No. 98, U/S 13A-3-67 Gambling Act has been registered in PS-Maloya, Chandigarh. He was later on bailed out. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Action against illicit liquor

Chandigarh Police arrested Salman R/o # 1816, Dadu Majra Colony, UT Chandigarh (Age-31 years) and recovered 60 quarters of country made liquor from his possession near Govt. School, Sector.38-West, Chandigarh on 09.08.2022. A case FIR No. 99, U/S 61-1-14 Excise Act has been registered in PS-Maloya, Chandigarh. He was later bailed out. Investigation of the case is in progress.


A case FIR No. 17 dated 09.08.2022, U/S 419, 420, 468, 471, 120-B IPC PS- Cyber Crime on the complaint of Dr. Raman Nijhwan R/o # 2126, Sector.15-C, Chandigarh who alleged that unknown person cheated the complainant of Rs. 1,48,999/- on 06.08.2022 regarding pay to electric bill. The complainant alleged that on 06.08.2022, he received a message from an unknown mobile number which mentioned that the power of his house will be disconnected because his earlier month bill was not updated. After some time, he received a call from an unknown person who asked him to update his mobile number. For this he got an app downloaded by the name of Quick Support. He asked him to pay Rs. 10/- as fees from SBI Account. After the call disconnected, a total Rs. 1,48,999/- was withdrawn from his account. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Proclaimed Offender

A case FIR No. 122, U/S 174-A IPC has been registered in PS-39, Chandigarh on the orders of Sh. Chetesh Gupta, JMIC, Chandigarh against Sarabjit Singh @ Sunny R/o Village Khamano Kalan Distt. Fatehgarh Sahib (Pb) who was declared proclaimed Offender on 09.08.2022 in case FIR No. 284 dated 23.08.2019 u/s 376, 356 IPC and added 411 IPC as he failed to appear before the Hon’ble Court in pursuance of issuance of the proclamation. Investigation of the case is in progress.


In view of forthcoming "Independence Day" celebration, Chandigarh police has carried out special search operations in the colonies and sectors throughout the City.

The main purpose of these search operations and checking drives is to check the suspected persons and to get the verification of outsiders moved to Chandigarh during the last few days. Special search through Intelligence wing will also be carried out in the Hotels, Guest Houses for checking of C-form Violations.

Today, special search operations were carried out from 4 AM onwards at Bhaskar Colony, Sector-25, UT, Chandigarh under the supervision of SDPO/Central, SHO-11, SHO-Sarangpur and Incharge/ PP-24, Chandigarh alongwith QRT provided by Inspector Operations+ team of Crime Branch and Intelligence. In which total 85 police officials took part and during search 90 suspicious persons round up & 21 Rolls were issued and after verification they have been released. During search no criminal activities came to notice.


Traffic Advisory for 12.8.2022

Rehearsal for Independence Day- 2022 function shall be held on 12.8.2022 from 8:30 AM onwards at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. Therefore, the general public is requested to avoid the following stretch of road from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM on 12.8.2022:-

1. From Punjab Raj Bhawan towards Sector 5-6/7-8 Chowk (Hira Singh Chowk), straight to 4/5-8/9 Chowk, straight to Sector 3/4-9/10 Chowk (New Barricade Chowk) right turn straight to Sector 1/3/4 Chowk (Old Barricade Chowk), left turn towards War Memorial, Bouganvilla Garden, Sector 3, Chandigarh.

2. From War Memorial, Bouganvilla Garden, Sector 3 towards Old Barricade Chowk, right turn towards Matka Chowk, straight to Sector 16/17 Light Point on Jan Marg, left turn towards Lyons Light Point, right turn towards Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

Road users are, therefore, advised to make use of alternative routes during the timings given above. Inconvenience caused to the general public on account of these restrictions is regretted. General public is requested to cooperate with the police.
