Chandigarh, June 27, 2022: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya on Monday honoured and blessed Shanan Dhaka at Raj Bhavan for bagging the first position in the first women batch of the prestigious National Defense Academy (NDA) examination. Shanan and her family members met the Governor at Raj Bhavan today.

The Governor said that girls have made a mark in sports, education, defence and other fields as well. He said the schemes of the Central and State Governments for women’s empowerment are now showing positive results on the ground.

“Girls are taking full advantage of the welfare schemes meant for them. They are doing far better than boys in every field,” he said, adding that women have established their identity in the field of entrepreneurship as well. Thanks to the encouraging policies of the central and state governments, the parents have also started motivating girls to look for careers in other fields as well.

Governor Shri Dattatraya has appealed to all the parents not to allow girls to be deprived of education under any circumstances. All parents should give priority to the career of girls. Father of Shanan Honorary Captain (Retired) Vijay Dhaka has set an example for the success of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign by giving good education to his daughters, said Shri Dattatraya.

Shanan said that her elder sister is in military nursing service, while younger sister is studying in fifth standard. Parents have always encouraged us to study and move forward, she said. “The tradition that my father started by joining the army is now being taken forward by my daughters,” he said Captain Vijay Dhaka.

Among others who accompanied Shanan during her meeting with Shri Dattatraya included her mother Geeta Devi, younger sister Ashi, her teacher Devendra Kaur and Col (Retd) DS Deshwal.
