NEW DELHI : 20TH JUNE, 2022

The Kejriwal Government is determined to provide all required support to the budding sportspersons in the country. For this, the government has established Delhi Sports University, which will begin the admission process for its first Delhi Sports School from Wednesday, June 22. This sports school aims at providing world-class sports infrastructure to the students and will prepare them for various international championships through professional training. Speaking about the admissions, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “Delhi Sports School will accept students from all over the country. Through this unique sports school, our government aims to identify exemplary sports talent from all over India and nurture them. We will train students to become international sports champions and olympians in future.”

To reach out students across the country, Delhi Sports University will organise talent scouting camps across various states. All the students interested in getting admitted to Delhi Sports School will need to go through the rigorous process of talent scouting. They will first need to register themselves on the school’s online portal using the link http://dsu.ac.in/registration. Once the registration closes, a prescreened list of students will be prepared based on merit. These students will then be invited to the talent scouting camps where they will undergo various tests such as motor ability, speed endurance and agility tests along with sports specific tests for the chosen sports. After clearing these tests, the shortlisted students will be invited to Delhi. Here, they will also go through sports science tests. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a few medical tests before getting the offer of enrolment.

This co-educational school for classes 6-12, will be fully residential and will provide separate accommodation facilities for boys and girls. -> Athletics
-> Badminton
-> Shooting
-> Weightlifting
-> Wrestling
-> Boxing
-> Swimming

Students enrolled at Delhi Sports School will be trained under the guidance of specialised coaches and will be assessed continuously on their sports training and performance. The school will be bringing in former international athletes and acclaimed coaches to provide the best coaching to the students of the school. Apart from world-class sports coaching and facilities, the school will have a sports science centre and an athlete monitoring system to enhance the sports performance through scientific means.

Speaking about the design and curriculum of Delhi Sports School, Vice Chancellor of the Delhi Sports University, Olympic Medalist Dr. Karnam Malleswari said, “This holistic approach of creating an end-to-end sports ecosystem through sports science, world-class infrastructure, training and curriculum will also address the mental health issues that sportspersons face while balancing their sporting careers and academic requirements in formal education systems.”

It is to be noted that Delhi Sports University has recently signed an MoU with the University of East London (UEL) as a step towards providing the future students of the Delhi Sports University with international exposure and world-class facilities from the very beginning of the first session.
