Chandigarh, June 12th 2022 - Today, students of Master of Design in Fashion & Textiles (M.Des. F & T),M.Sc Fashion Marketing and Management (FMM) and M.Sc Garment Manufacturing and Technology (GMT) of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT, Mohali) presented their final degree projects at the NIIFT Campus,Mohali.

The jury evaluating the projects of Master of Design in Fashion & Textiles(M.Des. Cum Principal NIIFT, Mohali/Ludhiana)

Master of Design in Fashion and Textile is a two-year degree programme in Design for interactions that immerses you in a research-based approach to design within the context of services and social innovation. The program is specially pursued by those having keen interest in the artistic field.

Reaching career heights is the ultimate aim of every ambitious professional and Master of Design is one of the degrees that helps in specialization and advancing skills for a career in Design field.

In the fourth semester, the students have to work on a Degree project which provides a challenging platform for the students to extend and demonstrate their analytical skills necessary for decision making. Four months research work is scrutinized and monitored by the industry and faculty. Evaluation after every month results in giving refined work which provides practical solutions to industrial problems and also helps in enhancing productivity. Research work is a part of the project, provides a challenging platform to the students to extend and demonstrate the analytical skills necessary for decision making.

Project Topics: -Design Development from Pre-Production Industrial waste

Objective: - To study the preference of consumers to purchase sustainable fashion products and to develop designs from pre-production.

Name of Student: - Rishu

Project Topics: -Preference of customers for eco-friendly or sustainable accessories in a café.

Objective: - To understand the preference of customers for eco-friendly or sustainable accessories, to develop the different types of accessoreies and to determine the market acceptability for the developed accessories.

Name of Student: - Preeti

Project Topics: - A study of changes in apparel design of women of Haryana.

Objective: - To study the changes in traditional attire and to identify the major reasons of changes in their attire.

M.Sc in Fashion Marketing &ManagementandM.Sc in Garment Manufacturing and Technology (GMT) are two year Degree programmes designed to fulfil the requirements of the Retail Sector and Garment manufacturing industry.The basic objective of theseprogram is to enhance the students' perception of the commercial environment and matching it with professional understanding of manufacturing technology, marketing and management principles related to the Garment industry.

The students work in conjunction with the known names of the industry for a period of three months and find out areas of concern thereby giving suggestions, implementing and helping the units to resolve the problems being faced by the factory or management in order to compete in the market. Three months of research work is scrutinized and monitored by the industry experts and faculty at NIIFT. Evaluation after every month results in giving refined work which provides practical solutions to industrial problems and also helps in enhancing productivity.

This year a total of 4 research projects from FMM department and 3 projects from GMT department were presented. The research of students in FMM department focused on different areas like –Visual Marketing, Fashion forecasting, Consumer behaviour etc. while in GMT department students undertook research in areas like ergonomics,productivity enhancement etc

Objectives:Tounderstand customer perception of knitting as a seasonal pursuit to an all-year activity.

Consumer interest and skills to build hand knitting yarns more visible via digital media.

ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT OF SEWING AND FINISHING WORKSTATION OF WINSOME KNITWEAR- A CASE STUDY To determine the existing work-related musculoskeletal disorder (WMSD) of workers in garment production unit using OCRA INDEX Calculation.

To analyze the level of risk available & reduce risk by improving postures using the OCRA technique by Design & development of workplace.

It is pertinent to mention that students have been placed in leading Brands and companies like Zara, Lifestyle, Marks& Spencer, Kapsons,spotking Trident Vardhmaan, Orient Craft, Tynor ,Cascade, Octave & many more and Designers like Tarun Tahiliani, Satyapaul , Ritu Kumar ,J J Valya to name a few.

Ms. Geetika Singh,PCS, Director, Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, Mohali, commented “The presentations made by the students gave a deep analysis of the market conditions and manufacturing competitiveness and were of a very high order.”

Mr Vishav Bandhu, Registrar, NIIFT said, “The projects presented by the students are the need based industry projects. The M.Sc programs at NIIFT are the support systems for garment industry wherein the students under the direct supervision of industry and their faculty members are doing research projects.”

Dr. Poonam Aggarwal Thakur, Principal NIIFT, Congratulated the passing out students for showcasing deep understanding and analysis of Research problems and offering the industry very practical and commercial solutions.

According to Dr Meeta Gawri,HOD, FMM,” The presentations made by the students give insight into analysis of market conditions and productive competitiveness, creation of the optimum condition for demonstration of production, quality and sampling.

Mr. Kamaljit Singh Rana said, “Students have put in lot of efforts and hardwork which could be seen in their work”.
