*Transport Minister Shri Kailash Gahlot seeks RWA’s participation in switching to electric vehicles, sends letter to MLAs for their active participation*

*-Shri Kailash Gahlot appeals them to make this a mass movement, urges them to take the EV Pledge*

New Delhi: :05.03.2021-Transport Minister of Delhi, Shri Kailash Gahlot today sought the active participation of Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) in the ongoing Delhi Government Switch Delhi campaign, launched to encourage Delhites to adopt EV. He also sent out written communication to all the MLAs in Delhi to provide their support to the RWAs in their constituencies to be a part of this movement. The ongoing 4th week of the Switch Delhi campaign focuses on the participation of RWAs.


In his letter, he urged all the MLAs to take the EV Pledge, which is available on ev.delhi.gov.in and make a commitment to contribute to a cleaner Delhi. He also urged them to interact with residents of RWAs in their respective constituency about EVS and sensitize people by organising door-to-door campaign and Nukkad Sabhas.

The Transport Minister in a statement said “If we want to win this fight against pollution, the whole city will have to come together – just like we came together to fight Dengue and Corona. It is time to commit to switch to EVs and to make this a mass movement, a “Jan Andolan”. It is in this direction, the Delhi Government launched an 8-week Awareness campaign, Switch Delhi, to educate people on the benefits of EV and to encourage Delhiites to switch to EV. As elected representatives of the people, we must take the lead."

Delhi Government launched the landmark Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy last August. With only a few months into the launch, this policy is already being lauded as one of the most progressive policies globally, by policymakers and industry experts alike. Under the Delhi Government ambitious Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy,2020, the state government has undertaken various initiatives like providing purchase incentives, waiver of Road Tax and Registration fee, creating a network of charging infrastructure etc. The Delhi Government has recently also announced a transition of all leased or hired cars being engaged by the Delhi Government to EVs within the next six months.
