CHANDIGARH,03.03.21-World NCD Federation, an International Professional Association of members from seven medical specialties has been working towards development of strategies towards prevention and control of NCDs. The initiative started in 2015 with the association commencing a capacity building program “Public Health Approaches to NCDs”, which has entered its sixth year now. Now, as is the need of the hour, to engage and keep motivating the public as a whole, the federation recently launched its Global Health and Wellness Initiative- Play, Laugh and Grow.

It is indeed a great honour for the federation to have the legend, Padma Shree Milkha Singh, as brand ambassador of World NCD Federation to propagate this campaign at global level.

“There is nothing like fitness. It is my message to everyone to take out time every day for your health, keep yourself physically fit. My best wishes are with you all” says Milkha Singh. In his message, he reminded of an old saying “Chalda-Firda Loha, Beh gya ta Goha, Pai gya ta moya” meaning that a physically active person is solid like iron, the one who keeps sitting becomes like dung and the one who keeps lying in the bed is nothing but like the dead.

The international course on NCDs by the World NCD federation entered its second day. The day remained dedicated to discussion on public health interventions as well as multisectoral action and integration for NCD management and control. To have a live interaction with participants attending the virtual course, two panel discussion sessions were also conducted where queries of participants were addressed by the course faculty. Dr. Arun Chockalingam from University of Toronto (Canada) was present as Keynote Speaker. He spoke on the Global Initiatives for Healthy Aging, Challenges during pandemic and the resilience Strategies. In order to bring theory into practice, Dr. JS Thakur, course coordinator led the way to physical activity at workplace and engaged participants in a two-minute physical mobility activity “Clap Together for Good Health”

On behalf of World NCD Federation, Prof JS Thakur, President and Prof. Dheeraj Khurana, Vice-president thank Mr. Milkha Singh to become a part of this campaign. His gesture will be motivating the people to change lifestyle and make physical activity an integral part of their life.
