CHANDIGARH,14.01.21-Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women marked the joyous festival of Makar Sankranti with a havan ceremony here today. The havan was organised under the aegis of the Arya Samaj Committee of the college with the aim of ushering in this auspicious festival while promoting and upholding Indian Vedic Sanskriti among the youth. The ceremony was graced by Shri H.R. Gandhar, Vice President, DAV College Managing Committee (DAV CMC) and Smt. Sudesh Gandhar, Senior Governing Body Member, DAV CMC. Speaking on this occasion, Shri Gandhar prayed for peace and prosperity everywhere, and emphasised upon the fact that the present turbulent situation brought about by the pandemic has reinforced the significance of spirituality and spiritual quotient. Smt. Gandhar wished everyone on this auspicious occasion and expressed hope that Makar Sankranti- signifying change of season and a new beginning, brings a new dawn for the mankind. The spiritually cleansing ritual of havan was attended by staff who observed all the COVID-19 safety protocols and the students joined in the online mode, praying for peace and prosperity in the world. The staff members whose birthdays fall in the month of January were blessed by the dignitaries with garlands.

Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava highlighted the importance of Makar Sankranti as a festival that symbolises transition, and congratulated the staff and students on this occasion. In her inspiring address, Dr.Bhargava impressed upon the staff and students to look ahead with renewed vigour and a resolve to not to be bogged down by adversities.
