“UIAMS launches Project CICERONE- The mentorship program”

Placement Cell, UIAMS successfully launched its mentorship program “CICERONE 1.0” in an online mode which was convened by Rashi Vats (student). The occasion was graced by the presence of Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi, Director, UIAMS and Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha, Training and Placement Officer, the faculty members, and several alumni members from the passed out batches.

“CICERONE 1.0” is a mentorship program designed to bridge the gap between student life and the corporate world. The aim of the program is to clear the fear in students' minds and to give a first-hand experience of the corporate world. The project is an initiative of students from the college's placement cell and the team consists of - Saloni (Project co-ordinator), Rashi Vats (Content Creator), Rohit (Creative head), Sushmita Aggarwal (Digital Marketing Head), and Dr. Amandeep Singh Marwaha (Public Relations).

Prof. Upasna declared the Project CICERONE open. She appreciated the initiative and was elated by the efforts shown by the team to officially launch this project. She advised the students to exploit this opportunity to its fullest.

CICERONE began as a pilot project with a batch of 6 students and a 4 session mentorship was provided to them by ArpitUppal (2011-2013), Harsimran Kaur (2010-2012), DhruvVashisht (2014-2016), and Kautaq Singh Cheema (2017-2019). The pilot project was successful which lead the team to launch the project officially. The mentor in this program will be the college alumni who are industry experts, educational gurus, specific domain experts, and entrepreneurs, all from different walks of life.

Dr Amandeep Singh Marwaha told that UIAMS has a history of 10 glorious passed out batches. The students will be divided into different batches of six students each. Each batch will be provided with a mentor. It is a month-long program. Team CICERONE aims to carry out this project as an ongoing event in the future.

Nitish Chawla, an alumnus batch (2013-2015) said,'' I, thank you all for this initiative. I am nostalgic about my college days, how the guidance of our teacher has helped us do better in life”. The occasion was further graced by Kautaq Cheema (2017-19), Shivam Kaisha (2017-2019), Nikhil Dhingra (2011-2013), Lovepreet Singh Sidhu (2016-2018), all alumni of the college.

The faculty members present during the event which included Dr. Nishi Sharma, Dr. Anupreet Kaur Mavi, Dr. Manjushri Sharma and Dr. Rachita Sambyal wished the team great success for the initiative. The students who were present thanked the Placement Cell and Team CICERONE for their efforts for this initiative.

FRENCH DELEGATION ARRIVED

Chandigarh October 19, 2020-A French delegation comprising of Mr. Emmanuel LEBRUN-DAMIENS, Counsellor for Education, Science & Culture at Embassy of France in India (COCAC), also the Country Director, French Institute in India, Isabelle, Cultural Attache, Embassy of France and Ophelie Belin, Director, Alliance Francaise Le Corbusier, Chandigarh and Margo Girarn, National Coordination of CF, India visited Panjab University, Chandigarh today with the objective of joint future collaborative programmes with France. They met Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh along with PU Faculty at CIL, PU.

Vice Chancellor in his welcome address informed that this University is a prestigious University of the country with its old Heritage status and advanced facilities. It has 78 departments providing 150 courses in various fields. Informing about high rankings and its consistent position in pharmacy and sports for many years, he highlighted the achievements in various fields. Referring to his meeting with the Ambassador of France Emannuel LENAIN, early during the day, he added that India and France are both very enthusiastic about joint degree programs, collaborative researches and setting up of joint labs. He said that need of the hour is that the faculty and students get an opportunity for exchange.

The Country Director expressed his pleasure on being with the faculty of Panjab University and said that he is looking forward to developing partnership with the most prestigious University of the country. He added that with the the new economy development in the country, France would like to collaborate on Artificial Intelligence, Medicine Environment Engineering and Science. He shared that by engaging with the world, the Universities in France wants to have major hubs of excellence in India and specially with PU. There are diverse topics which can be explored and more than willing to come to India and vice versa. Right now the focus is to develop conversation with India and start relationships for long term growth in programs by signing agreements and developing personal relationships. He added that we need to work on solutions keeping in mind the huge political momentum in both the governments with lot of bilateral agreements being signed, there is lot to benefit from this.

Earlier, Professor Nandita Singh, Dean International Students while welcoming the delegation to PU, introduced everyone present and informed that this is the primary round of discussions with the French delegation to explore possibilities of future agreements and faculty and student exchange programs. She informed that by initiating these discussions, PU is looking for joint degrees, joint research and joint laboratories in future.

Professor V.R.Sinha, Dean Research in his interaction informed that already two MoUs are existing with France. Talking about UIPS he informed about the technology transfers, patents and consultancy work being provided to the industry by the pharmacy department. He informed about the strong collaborative work of UIPS and about 100% placement of students of pharmacy. He briefly explained about various departments in Panjab University and the courses being offered by them.

Professor Prince Sharma ,Dean Sciences informed that around 500 students are enrolled for various undergraduate programs in the Honours School System of PU. He briefly informed about the research going on in the microbiology department with special reference medical microbiology and vaccinology. The main focus of microbiology department is to collaborate with the industry for antimicrobial resistance to combat microorganisms.

Prof. G R Chaudhary, Director, Central Instrumentation Laboratory informed about the wide range of sophisticated equipment which are being used for academics and industry. He shared that the facility is catering to the needs of industry in the region and even samples from all across the nation are received by CIL.

Prof .Upasana Joshi, Director, University Institute of Applied Management Sciences(UIAMS) and Prof Sanjiv Sharma informed about various courses being run by the institute and also shared about the summer exchange programs for their students. She informed that this year 36 foreign students have been enrolled under ICCR program

Prof. Savita Gupta, Director, University Institute of Engineering & Technology(UIET) informed that their department is the biggest department of PU with multi disciplinary courses being run and also informed about the summer training exchange internships availed by the students.

Prof. Anish Slath, Director, University Institute of Hotel And Tourism Management, while explaining about various courses under his department, said that he is looking forward to encourage students to come to PU for learning culinary skills.

Dr. Rohit Sharma, Director, Microbial BioTechnology, informed about the multi disciplinary incubation space being created to cater to all verticals. He informed about the Bionest Technonlogy and the large number of partnerships it is offering.

Prof. Harish Kumar, UIET highlighted the faculty projects which are currently being taken up with Universities in France.

Webinar on New Education Policy

आज दिनांक 19.10.2020 को संस्कृत विभाग, पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा 12.00 बजे नई शिक्षानीति के विशेष सन्दर्भ में भारतीय भाषाओं में उच्चशिक्षा विषय पर एक वेबिनार आयोजित किया गया। इस वेबिनार में लगभग 100 प्रतिभागी उपस्थित थे। संयोजक प्रो. वीरेन्द्र कुमार अलंकार, विभागाध्यक्ष नें जानकारी दी कि इस वेबिनार में पंजाब, हरियाणा, हिमाचल, जम्मू-काश्मीर, उत्तराखण्ड, उत्तरप्रदेश आदि अनेक प्रान्तों के शिक्षाविदों, शोधच्छात्रों व अन्य प्रतिभागियों ने न केवल भाग ही लिया, बल्कि अपनी जिज्ञासाएँ भी साँझी की। सत्र के अध्यक्ष प्रो. राज कुमार, कुलपति, पी.यू. ने भारतीय भाषाओं के लिए एकजुट होकर कार्य करने पर बल देते हुए कहा कि विविध भाषाएँ हमारा गौरव हैं। भारत को इस पर संकोच नहीं, अभिमान करना चाहिए। मुख्य संवादकर्ता के रूप में प्रो. रजनीश कुमार शुक्ल, कुलपति, महात्मा गान्धी अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय विश्वविद्यालय,वर्धा, महाराष्ट्र रहे। अपने मुख्य वक्तव्य में प्रो. शुक्ल ने कहा कि चीन, जापान, कोरिया आदि कितने ही ऐसे देश हैं , जिन्होंने अपनी भाषा के दम पर ही विज्ञान और दूसरे क्षेत्रों में अपनी पहचान बनाई है। भारत के पास तो भाषाओं व साहित्य का अपार भण्डार है। अपनी भाषा में मूल्य, संस्कार व संस्कृति होती है। वेबिनार के समन्वयक प्रो. अलंकार नें विषय की स्थापना में स्वतन्त्र शब्द का अर्थ बताते हुए कहा कि स्वतन्त्र में तन्त्र शब्द तनु विस्तारे धातु से बना है। इसका अर्थ है विस्तार। अतः अपनी भाषा, अपनी संस्कृति, अपनी परम्परा, अपना शासन, अपनी शिक्षाव्यवस्था का विस्तार ही स्वतन्त्रता होती है।

WEBINAR ON INCLUSION OF SPECIALLY ABLED PEOPLE

Parwaaz Foundation, in collaboration with NSS, UILS, Panjab University Chandigarh, organised a webinar on the topic: "Importance of inclusion of specially abled people". The event was graced by Dr. Nirmal, Veterinary Officer, Govt. Of Punjab as the chief guest, the guest of honour Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Director UILS and the keynote speaker Mr. Jagannath Singh Jayara, principal, Institute for the Blind, Sector- 26 Chandigarh, and was attended by ~100 school students & college NSS team.

The event started with a welcome note by guest of honour which also included insights on how the department is striving for skillful education, not merely the traditional one.

The keynote speaker spoke about the need to bring specially abled people into the mainstream which requires acceptance and empathy. He emphasised on the large spectrum of extraordinary abilities specially abled people have and how we can recognise them and help transform those abilities into skills which will provide them sustenance and dignity. He included the example of many paralympians who have forged through the difficulties and achieved great heights.

Following this, the Parwaaz Foundation team: President Shipra, Gunjan, Ujjawal & Harkiran, put forward their vision for overcoming discriminations and biases for the social inclusion programmes to function. The honourable chief guest, who himself has adopted many rural schools to improve the learning environment there, acknowledged and appreciated the efforts being put towards social all round inclusion. He also committed help in all such streams that help put up a responsible and citizen friendly society.

The Q and A session had the attendees ask about how the youth can contribute at their levels which simply showed the impact of the talk. The practice of organ donation, the myths around it and streamlining the rightful delivery of organs were also discussed here. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anupam along with Dr. Amita, Coordinators of NSS, UILS, PU, who mentioned their deepest gratitudes for the successful event and a fruitful discussion.

First eBook on National Education Policy 2020 Released

Release of First eBook on National Education Policy 2020: Reflections of Stakeholders

Since 29th July 2020, when the National Education Policy 2020 was approved by the Union Cabinet, the academic world has been surcharged with Webinars.

In this context, first of its kind an eBook on National Education Policy 2020 was formally released by the Governor of Chhatisgarh, Ms Anusuiya Uikey, today at the National Webinar on National Education Policy 2020: Reflections from Stakeholder organized by the Kushabhau Thakre Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya (LTPAJV), Raipur. At the event Prof Raj Kumar was the Guest of Honour.

The eBook, compilations of thoughts of stakeholders from the different segments of the strata has been co-edited by Dr Kalpana K Mahajan and Dr Ravi K Mahajan from the Panjab University, Dr Manoj Saxena from HP Central University and Dr Qazi Maher Ali from the Aligarh Muslim University. The book carries reflections from all the corners of the country.

While referring to the emerging collaboration with the universities in France, Prof Raj Kumar, in his address laid emphasis on the Resource Sharing as key to success in the implementation of the National Educating Policy 2020.Professor Raj Kumar shared in particular his experience of the Central Instrumentation laboratory (CIL) of Panjab University. And he envisioned the role of CIL in extending its experience and expertise in the tribal areas of Chhatisgrah. On the implementation of the NEP, Prof Raj Kumar expressed that the onus is on the universities and the faculty has to play a pro-active role.

Governor of Chhatisgarh Ms Anusuiya Uikey in her address referred about the role of educating children in the local language. And she referred about diminishing knowable about the key herbs which is being lost because of ignoring the component of local language.

At the Webinar Dr Pankaj Mittal, the Secretary General Association of Indian Universities, delivered the Key Note Address. In her address, Dr Pankaj Mittal eulogized on the role of Academic Bank of Credit, which promises an ultimate flexibility to the students.

The Webinar was also addressed by Prof Baldev Bhai Sharma, the Vice Chancellor of LTPAJV, Raipur and Prof Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh University.

More than 700 enthusiasts participated in the event.
