PU Online Exit Semester Exams Concluded Today

Around 80000 students of Undergraduate/Post Graduate/Other Professional Courses including USOL/Private have appeared in the first ever online examination conducted by Panjab University which commenced on 17th September 2020.

Prof. Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination informed that the exams continued for 17 days continuously including Saturday and Sunday with total of 1400 exams conducted during these days in 3 slabs of 9 am to 11 am, 10 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm.

CoE informed that Environment and Road Safety Education examination was also conducted online with option of google form for about those 5000 candidates who did not qualify this exam in their previous years .

For the facilitation of the candidates in far flung areas like Leh Ladakh, North Eastern States, special nodal officer of Dy Registrar rank was deputed to resolve their issues, CoE added.

Evaluation of all the papers is being undertaken by the University and College teachers .Online portal link for submission of awards was made available for the first time to departments and colleges for posting of awards of UG and PG classes, he added.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor remained connected with CoE throughout this period to take stock of the situation and congratulated CoE and his team for successful completion of the exit semester exams.

CoE expressed his gratitude to PU Fellows, Teaching Fraternity and all the Chairpersons/ College Principals/Coordinators/ Supporting Staff for the successful completion of the Exams being introduced for the first time.

He further informed that many queries of Principals/Chief Coordinators/Chairpersons were properly and instantly resolved by COE personally and his technical team headed by System Administrator and System Managers. The emergency packet of question papers were also made available in the 40 Nodal Centres in various affiliated Colleges of PU, he informed. He added that the downloading of the question papers and the uploading of the answer sheets went off smoothly in all the exams.

Online Merit- Based Admission to the courses of B.Ed. (General), B.Ed. (Yoga) and B.Ed. Special Education (Intellectual Disability) for the session 2020-2022 in the affiliated Colleges located in Chandigarh (U.T.) shall be conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. ONLINE application forms and counseling schedule for the same shall be available at website with effect from 07/10/2020. Last dates for submission of information on the website to generate the Fee Challan is 22/10/2020; for depositing fee in any branch of State Bank of India using website generated Challan is 27/10/2020 and last date for uploading of photograph, signature with rest of information on the website is 29/10/2020.

A fee of Rs.2175/-for General Category and Rs.1088/-for SC/ST/PwD categories students to be paid along with filling the admission form.

No advertisement in news paper will be given regarding schedule of admission.

The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies in collaboration with the Panjab University Alumni Association and Social Substance organized the online screening of the original videos of Mahatma Gandhi and panel discussion via Cisco WebEx at 10:00 am onwards. While welcoming the audience and other invited members of PU Alumni Association, the Chairperson of the Department Dr. Manish Sharma highlighted that from the original videos of Gandhi ji one can see how practically he managed his day to day life and what others can learn from him, the concept of simplicity, non-violence and equal attention to all irrespective of any discrimination and especially towards the end points of his life where he stressed upon the upliftment of down trodden. After the screening of the original videos, the panel discussion was opened up where the experts include the Faculty members of the Department and Prof. R. K. Gupta from Kaithal who had done research on Gita according to Gandhi explained in details the different concepts related to the original videos and the philosophy of Gandhi.

In the end Dr. Arun proposed vote of thanks to all. Dr Manish also informed the members that tomorrow at 09am onwards to 10:30 am the department would be conducting the Interfaith event where the people from different religions will discuss about Peace Within, Peace Without via Zoom link ( and at 12 Noon onwards will be conducting the online Lecture of Professor Suresh Misra and Professor N. K. Ambasht will be the chief guest and honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar will preside. In this function the award of the best maali and awards of the different events organized by the department will be declared via Cisco Webex in collaboration with the PU Alumni Association. A book Released on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanati by DES, Panjab University

Professor Mahesh Sharma, Chairperson of the Department of Evening Studies - MDRC, today released a book entitled 'My Lockdown Diaries – Understanding Hind Swaraj' written by Dr. Amneet Gill of the Department of History, DES-MDRC. He congratulated Dr. Amneet Gill for productively utilizing her time during the lockdown and encouraged her to continue with such research work in future also. Dr. Amneet Gill is teaching in the Department of Evening Studies and has been an academic topper throughout. Released on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Dr. Amneet Gill's book highlights that Mahatma Gandhi's cultural analysis and emphasis on collective welfare would be helpful to achieve social and economic equilibrium in the current pandemic infected world. Professor Keshav Malhotra and Professor Rehana Parveen (Retd.) appreciated the writing.
