Panjab University organizes webinar on ‘Patent Protection’

As a part of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) series, a webinar entitled, ‘Patent Protection in India and Abroad’was organized today by IPR Chair, Panjab University in association with DST-Centre.

CHANDIGARH,26.09.20-As a part of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) series, a webinar entitled, ‘Patent Protection in India and Abroad’was organized today by IPR Chair, Panjab University in association with DST-Centre for Policy Research,PU and Association of Microbiologists of India ,Chandigarh unit.

The keynote speaker,Dr. K.S. Kardam, Former Sr. Joint Controller of Patents & Designs, Government of India, presented a holistic and comprehensive insight into the relevance of the intellectual property (IP) and exemplified the detailed process of applying for patents in India and abroad through the Indian Patent Office and the Patent Cooperation Treaty respectively. Dr. Kardam also apprised the audience about the­ recent efforts of the central government to shorten patent-grant period and introduction of novel schemes to stimulate IP ecosystem in India. He particularly dwelled upon,‘Scheme for Facilitating Startups Intellectual Property Protection’ (SIPP) to boost start-up culture in India. This scheme is being highly appreciated by the budding entrepreneurs.

Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor Panjab University (PU), chaired the webinar and emphasized the importance of patents for the young minds and researchers.He was of the opinion that a single patent is worth more than a dozen of research publications. He also highlighted the need for strengthening IPR regime in Indian higher education institutions.

Dr Sanjeev Khosla, Director, Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Chandigarh and distinguished guest of the event apprised the audience of the patent regime of CSIR laboratories and also stressed upon the generation of wealth via the patent commercialization.

The webinar was attended by nearly 100 participants comprising of young researchers, students, professors and scientists belonging to many Higher Education Institutes as well as Research Laboratories situated in and around Chandigarh.

Panjab University Alumni Association in collaboration with Department of Urdu organized a webinar to pay tribute to the famous national poet Shri Rahat Indori, today.

Dr. Rahat Indori was a famous Indian poet who wrote poems in Urdu. He was also a former professor of Urdu language and a painter. He also wrote many famous songs for Bollywood. He passed away in August 2020.

The event was moderated by Mr Shams Tabrezi who is an Urdu poet since the last 36 years. He has written 13 books (poetry and prose). He has been awarded by many National level awards.

The invited speakers of the event were Ms. Sangeeta Sharma Kundra, Dr. Anjum Barabankvi and Dr. Zia Tonki.

Ms. Sangeeta Sharma Kundra is from Chandigarh. She is a poet and from the last 10 years has been doing a comparative study of Hindi and Urdu. Dr. Anjum Barabankvi is an Urdu poet since the past 40 years and has written 4 books on poetry. He is presently Prof. of Urdu at Madhya Pradesh Bhoj University. Dr. Zia Tonki is also a poet since the last 25 years, has published a collection of poetry. He is also a doctor by profession. All the speakers and Mr Tabrezi were from a close circle of friends of Dr. Rahat Indori.

The event started with a welcome from PUAA and Department of Urdu.

Mr Tabrezi introduced and welcomed all the speakers.

Dr. Zia Tonki spoke about the poetry of Dr. Indori. He said that Dr Indori’s poems were full of nationalism and patriotism.

Dr. Barabankvi shared incidents and anecdotes from Dr Indori’s life that showed his skill in poetry and his positive attitude towards life. He showed a book that was gifted to him by Dr Indori.

Ms. Sangeeta Sharma spoke about Dr. Indori’s contribution to Hindi poetry. She read out some of his poetry.

Mr Shams Tabrezi read out selected poetry of Dr. Rahat Indori.

Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator, Department of Urdu gave a truly vivid and learned account of Urdu poetry. Prof. Deepti Gupta, Dean Alumni Association gave a vote of thanks.
