Chandigarh, March 25:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has conducted the Town Vending Committee (TVC) Election for five members of the committee in compliance with Chapter V (Section 12,13 &14) of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014 as per the provisions laid down in the Rules 2015.

For the Constitution of Town Vending Committee (TVC), an intent for conducting TVC election was published on 12.02.2022.

Consequently, 28 street vendors had filed nominations for 5 TVC members under SC/OBC/Women/Minority and differently able category.
However, 16 nominations were rejected due to eligibility criteria. The election was carried out under the supervision Sh. Inderjeet Singh Gulati, Returning Officer-cum-Superintending Engineer (B&R). Three polling stations comprising of six polling booths were established for conducting elections comprising of 7249 eligible street vendors for casting their votes to elect their representatives in the Town Vending Committee.

Three members of the said Town Vending Committee (TVC) were elected unopposed under women and minority categories.
As of now, a total of 3212 have voted in the election out of 7249 totalling a turnout of 44.31% percentage of voting.

Ms. Anindita Mitra IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that the TVC is being elected as per the procedure laid out in Schedule of the Union Territory of Chandigarh Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Rules, 2015.The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will left no stone unturned in taking up the affairs of street vendors in the city which are lying pending for a year.
